Continuing our hour by hour coverage of the fall schedule, we move to Tuesday nights at 10pm.  ABC newcomer Detroit 1-8-7 squares off against Parenthood on NBC and The Good Wife on CBS.

Tuesday Nights 10pm-11pm:

Tuesday 10:00p 10:30p
Detroit 1-8-7  New
The Good Wife
Parenthood

-

Who'll Win?   Parenthood debuted on NBC in this time slot after the winter Olympics so we've already seen a bit of head-to-head competition between it and CBS's  The Good WifeParenthood generally won the battle for the advertising coveted adults 18-49 over The Good Wife by 0.1-0.3 18-49 ratings points (The Good Wife completely destroyed the field in the imaginary battle for total viewers).

Is it possible that things will work out differently in the fall?  Sure, it's possible, but for now I'd bet (at least $1) against it.  Parenthood will again enjoy the best lead-in NBC has to offer of The Biggest Loser. I'd again  expect ABC to finish last for the hour.  But I don't expect Detroit 1-8-7, which gets the "DWTS Results Show" as its lead-in, to perform as well with adults 18-49 as V did when it had Lost as its lead-in.  The Good Wife should take second with adults 18-49 a bit more comfortably than it did last spring.

We're not quite done with our hour-by-hour coverage, look for the last of the  coverage in the coming week .  You can find all the previous  hour-by-hour coverage here.

  1. Tuesday night is pretty weak overall. Parenthood should easily take this spot.

I hope with all the award buzz The Good Wife will go back to its 2.8-3.0 fall ratings before Parenthood brought damage to it falling to even as low as 2.0. But base on the spring results I predict Parenthood will win by a little. Detroit 1-8-7 might perform on par with V or a little lower, it will depend on how DWTS results perform now. But I think this will be a close fight

    Parenthood – 2.6
    The Good Wife – 2.5
    Detroit 1-8-7 – 2.3

  3. Honestly, don’t care for any of the shows. But if I had to choose, I would go with #thegoodwife – it has Josh Charles and Matt Czuchry, after all :)

I expect Detroit 187 to premiere modestly and then fall to about where the forgotten was last year. Parenthood will be on par with last year, and The Good Wife will do slightly better than it did in the spring.

    Parenthood, 2.6-3.0

    The Good Wife 2.2-2.5

    Detroit 187 Premiere 2.4-2.8 (settling around 1.5-2.1)

  5. I definitely think Parenthood will win the hour with The Good Wife close behind and maybe swapping wins throughout the season.

  6. I like both Parenthood and The Good Wife and I;m only 13 years old. Both shows are great and has an amazing cast.I just hope Parenthood will not drop 1.9 and The Good Wife averaging below 2.5.

    Predictions:

    Parenthood – 2.5-3.0
    viewers:7-9 million

    Detroit 1-8-7 – 2.0-2.5
    viewers:around 7-10 million

The Good Wife – 2.7-3.5 (if it will still skew old peaoply maybe around 2.3-3.0
    viewers:11-14 Million

I can see why people may think Detroit 187 will be last due to ABC having trouble with Tuesday at 10 since Boston Legal (Eli Stone, Cupid, The forgotten, V kinda) but I’m giving it hope for second just becuase I find The Good Wife incredibly BORING! I do not understand why it was up for an Emmy.

    Parenthood-2.8
    Detroit 187-2.4
    Good Wife-2.3
    Detroit 187

  8. Unlike Monday at 10pm this not that exciting but I actually think it might be one of the more competitive timeslots of the week at least between NBC and ABC since The Good Wife has that NCIS doubleheader lead-in. Tuesdays at 10pm is actually a timeslot full of different genres so each show should be able to get its full audience potential.

People are giving the crown to Parenthood but I think its going to end up in third. I’m hearing good things about Detroit 1-8-7 and it could be the next Castle. I think Detroit 1-8-7 will be good enough for second place and will have that DWtS lead-in. If the show catches fire it will challenge The Good Wife which just had its way last season.

Parenthood really needs to grow this season as the show was lucky that NBC is a fourth place network but the network is on its way to leaving these kind of performers behind. To me Parenthood is in a bad timeslot as it should be on earlier since its a family show. I’m not saying 8pm b/c it can’t anchor yet but 9pm with a good lead-in would do. Parenthood is a good demo performer so expect it to stick around and win its timeslot at in the demo if Detroit 1-8-7 doesn’t catch fire like I mentioned before.

    My predictions:
    1.) The Good Wife – 12-13 million, 2.5
    2.) Detroit 1-8-7 – 8-10 million, 2.9 (Baby Castle)
    3.) Parenthood – 6-7 million, 2.6

I posted my predictions with detailed analysis for Monday at 10pm if you guys want to check it out.

I think the numbers will be pretty close to last year with Parenthood winning and Good Wife easily getting second. Detroit 187 will go the way of Forgotten.

  10. Lisa

I would be really surprised if Detroit 1-8-7 did well. Might start at like a 2.3 but will drop to 1.7 or lower before it gets canceled. I don’t see many ABC viewers wanting to watch another generic cop show. At least, I hope not.

    The Good Wife – 2.2/2.6
    Parenthood – 2.0/2.4
    Detroit 1-8-7 – 1.6/2.0

throwing fx’s cable ratings standout Sons of Anarchy into the mix which also airs Tue@10…
Sons of Anarchy got ~2.5 million viewers in 18-49 which means a ~2.0 rating in 18-49, right ?

Good Wife is somewhat of a wildcard. If it recovers even half of what it dropped from last fall, that would put it within spitting distance of Parenthood. While I don’t see it happening, it’s not impossible.

I don’t even think Detroit will see Forgotten’s numbers. Could we see V get a reprieve and air here again in the Spring? (Not that V will make it to next season, in any case.)

    To summarize:
    Parenthood 2.6
    Good Wife 2.3
    Detroit 187 1.87 – Just kidding, 1.7

This hour is again shaping up to be pretty weak overall. I still wonder how Parenthood would perform without the best lead in NBC has to offer but clearly NBC felt it couldn’t sustain itself without training wheels for at least another half season. I don’t know anyone who’s terribly excited for 187 so I agree with those predicting that it will probably be a last place finisher here.

    Parenthood: 2.3-2.6
    Good Wife: 2.2.-2.6
    D 187: 1.9-2.2

I think we all pretty much know that Detroit 1-8-7 is not going to do very well at all. And after last season i think its pretty safe to say Parenthood can and will beat The Good Wife.

    Parenthood- 2.5
    The Good Wife- 2.3
    Detroit 187- 2.1

I’ll be watching/DVRing The Good Wife and Parenthood. I think they’re both well made shows. If I could only watch one? Hem-n-haw, The Good Wife but it wouldn’t be an easy decision.

I will stick with USA on Tues night.

  20. They should have put the Chase in this time slot.
