Canary In the Coal Mine? Should The CW’s Veteran Show Ratings Falls Worry The Other Networks?
The four veteran shows that have premiered so far this season on the CW have dropped (most sharply) vs. their premiere ratings last season.
Ratings changes (Fall 2009 premiere vs. Fall 2010 premiere):
America’s Next Top Model, down 23% for women 18-34 (2.0 vs. 2.6 for hour 1 of 2009 premiere)
Vampire Diaries, down 7% for women 18-34 (2.8 vs. 3.0)
90210, down 35% for women 18-34 (1.7 vs. 2.6)
Gossip Girl, down 39% for women 18-34 (2.0 vs. 3.3)
Are the CW’s returning show ratings plunges signs of things to come for the rest of the broadcast networks mining for TV ratings this season?
Or is the CW just a solo sick canary?
We’ll get a little indication tonight when NBC’s Parenthood returns.
