For the first time, Jay Leno's Tonight Show adults 18-49 ratings beat those of Conan O'Brien's Tonight Show on a calendar week basis (2010 vs. 2009), but…
… last week's (Sept 6-10, 2010) Tonight Show ratings average had an important difference from the same week in 2009 (Sept 7-11). The Thursday Tonight Show was delayed by the highly rated NFL primetime game, as was Conan's on the comparable week a year ago.
However, this year that Thursday night show rating WAS included in the week's ratings average, but last year it WAS NOT.
Update: Unofficial calculations using just Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday last week would have resulted in a a 1.0 adults 18-49 rating for Leno's Tonight Show.
Unofficially calculating last YEAR's (2009) comparable week the same way the the 2010 week was calculated (including Thursday), it would have produced a 1.2 adults 18-49 rating for Conan last year.
Leno's Tonight Show for the week of September 6-10 averaged a 1.2 rating with adults 18-49 and Conan's Tonight Show ratings for the comparable calendar week last year averaged a 1.1 rating with adults 18-49.
Letterman's Late Show ratings stayed at a 0.7 adults 18-49 rating, but it was the same as the comparable week last year.
