Disclaimer: these early household metered market results measure household viewing in the 56 largest markets only. They can not be converted into viewer numbers and there is no good way to project age demographics like adults 18-49 from these numbers.

We'll have the fast national information with viewer averages and demos up some time around 11:30am ET.  Check back.

With the disclaimers out of the way....

The Middle had a 6.0/10 (household rating/share) that's up from last year's premiere when it aired at 8:30 after the failed HankBetter With You premiered with a 5.2/8 at 8:30 and another case of "you have to wait for the demos" because on the surface that's less than The Middle premiered with last year (5.4) and The Middle had a worse lead in.

Modern Family scored an 8.8/14 household/rating share up from last year's 7.8/12.  Cougar Town slipped to a 6.1, but again, wait for the demos.  Same for the two hour premiere of Hell's Kitchen on Fox which scored a 4.3/7 but was still up from last year's combo of So You Think You Dance and GleeHK usually does fine with the ad coveted adults 18-49 though, we'll see.

The Whole Truth wasn't pretty, scoring only a 3.8/7 at 10pm and dropping from the 5.6/10 premiere of Eastwick last year.  Eastwick premiered with 3.0 rating with adults 18-49, but then plummeted rapidly.

Criminal Minds opened with an 8.9/14, but that was down from the 9.4/15 it premiered with a year ago.   The Defenders opened with a 7.9/13,  which is, yes, more than double The Whole Truth, but also down from last year's CSI: NY Premiere of 9.4/14.

Earlier in the night CBS was on top in the 8pm hour with a 7.4/12 with Survivor: Nicaragua which improved 64 percent versus last year's comedy block of The New Adventures of Old Christine and Gary Unmarried.  We'll have to see how The Big Bang Theory does tonight, but the first half of the switcheroo is working out for CBS so far.

Over on NBC Undercovers premiered with a 6.2/10 at 8pm. Remember, these are just early household ratings, not adults 18-49 ratings.  The 6.2 looks pretty solid and NBC might have a bit of good news on its hands.  Law & Order: SVU scored a 7.1/11 between 9p-11p, up 29% over its one hour premiere in 2009.   Check back at 11:30a ET/8:30a PT for more details.
