The series premieres for the first week of the 2010-11 broadcast primetime season are in the books, and CBS' rookie class is leading the honor roll so far. Their worst mid-week premiere, The Defenders, averaged a 2.9  adults 18-49 rating. Only 3 other rookie series premieres topped that. To put the preliminary 2.2 adults 18-49 rating for Blue Bloods on Friday in perspective, CBS had only one Friday rating better than a 2.2 last season (Ghost Whisperers' premiere 2.3).

ABC's rookie class performance ranged from woeful to  unpromising. Its best rookie 18-49 rating last week was Better With You's 2.5. The Whole Truth's 1.5 and My Generation's 1.6 ratings mark them as contenders for "first to be cancelled".

Both NBC and Fox had good and bad grades. Fox's Lone Star is destined for certain cancellation, as is NBC's Outlaw. However, NBC had two shows score  a 3.6 rating (The Event, Outsourced), and Fox scored a 3.1 for Raising Hope, so each class had some reason to be hopeful in the first week.

All the rookies will be keeping their fingers crossed for a rare second week ratings gain. Stay tuned.

The broadcast primetime rookie class, first week's adults 18-49 final ratings:

ABC

CBS

Fox

NBC

  • The Event: 3.6
  • Outsourced: 3.6
  • Chase: 2.3
  • Undercovers: 2.1
  • Outlaw: 1.1* (second episode, 2.3 for first episode )

*Friday ratings still preliminary.

The remaining broadcast rookie premieres scheduled for September and October are No Ordinary Family 9/28 (ABC), Law & Order: LA 9/29 (NBC) and School Pride 10/15 (NBC).

Fox's The Good Guys 0.9 rating on Friday was also dreadful, and it seems certain to be cancelled, but it began airing in May, so I didn't consider it a "rookie". If you do, feel free to add it to the list above yourself.

Last week featured the third episodes for the CW rookies (Hellcats & Nikita), and while their ratings are far lower than the other broadcast rookies they have held up well so far.
