NEW YORK – Sept. 27, 2010 – “Sunday Night Football” was the No. 1 broadcast on Sunday night for the third consecutive week. SNF won the night on a night that included nine network season premieres, according to overnight data released today by The Nielsen Company.
“Sunday Night Football” featuring the New York Jets 31-23 victory over the Miami Dolphins, earned a 13.0 overnight rating and 21 share (from 8:30-11:45 p.m. ET), a 10 percent increase over last year’s Week 3 SNF game (Colts-Cardinals, 11.8/19).
The rating peaked at a 14.1/20 from 11:30-11:45 p.m. ET as the outcome was still in doubt in the final minutes.
DOMINATED DEBUT COMPETITION: Last night’s “Sunday Night Football” broadcast dominated against premiere programs including ABC's Extreme Makeover: Home Edition, Desperate Housewives and Brothers & Sisters, CBS's 60 Minutes, Amazing Race and Undercover Boss and Fox's The Simpsons, The Cleveland Show and Family Guy.
SNF also faced considerable sports competition in the NY market with the Yankees and Red Sox playing on ESPN.
NBC led the night among metered markets in primetime (7-11 p.m. ET) with a 9.9/16 topping the 9.5/15 for second-place CBS, which was boosted by an NFL overrun of about 45 minutes. NBC also beat ABC by 55 percent (6.4/10) and Fox by 94 percent (5.1/8).
When the viewership is available tomorrow from Nielsen, "Sunday Night Football" is expected to be the most-watched Sunday night show for the third consecutive week. Last season, SNF was the most-watched Sunday night primetime broadcast in a record 15 of 16 (94 percent) weeks. In 2008, SNF won 13 of 16 (81 percent) Sunday nights after winning 11 of 16 in 2007 (69 percent) and nine of 16 in 2006 (56 percent).
