Syndicated Ratings Premiere Week: Oprah Beats Down ‘Judge Judy’; ‘Two and a Half Men’ Tops ‘Jeopardy’ in Viewers
The syndicated world kicked off a new season on Monday, September 13 and for the week of September 13-19, there was definitely some upheaval in the syndicated ranks. Wheel of Fortune still came out of top, but Two and a Half Men leapfrogged over Jeopardy in both household ratings and average viewers into the second spot.
Oprah was fourth in total viewers, though second in household rating, topped all talkers and easily bested Judge Judy in total viewers (7.2 million vs. 6.1 million) and household rating (5.3 vs. 4.3). But Judge Judy was actually up 10% from premiere week last year and Oprah was down 13%. Oprah easily dominated the talkers in all key demographics.
In a mini Oprah-Judge Judy battle, Oprah spinoff The Nate Berkus Show was bested by 40% in household rating (1.4 vs. 1.0) by Swift Justice with Nancy Grace.
The Ellen DeGeneres Show fell outside of the top 25 rankings and was #32 in viewers (2.8 million) and #26 in household rating (2.1).
Friday Night Smackdown! averaged a 1.7 household rating and 2.766 million viewers on September 17.
Please note that the syndicated weekly results are delayed versus normal reporting. While we get the broadcast and cable ratings for the prior Monday-Sunday period every Tuesday, there is an extra week of lag time with the syndicated ratings and these numbers are not for last week, but for the week before last.
ESPN Monday Night Football is syndicated to a local affiliate in the markets of the two teams playing. Unfortunately (for us) Nielsen includes all of the viewing that happened on ESPN too (which was almost all of it) in the numbers below. As a result, for the rest of football season Monday Night Football will show up at the top of this chart because that’s how Nielsen gives us the data. But for the remainder of the season it will only be one game.
