Aunt Bee! Aunt Bee!  The Andy Griffith Show made its debut 50 years ago on October 3, 1960 at 9:30pm on CBS. It was a Monday night and it followed The Danny Thomas Show from which it was spun-off. I guess CBS has always been fond of the Monday night 9pm comedy block.

The Andy Griffith Show would run for 8 seasons, ending on April 1, 1968. The show has lived on in reruns, and just the viewing on TV Land alone accounts for almost as much as the total viewing on Hulu.

Barney Fife, Floyd the barber and Otis the drunk, not to mention the spin-offs Mayberry R.F.D and Gomer Pyle, U.S.M.C.   Happy anniversary!
