The news hasn't been all bad for the broadcast networks this fall, but when it comes to new shows, the news hasn't been so great. There's the low-rated and quickly canceled disasters like Lone Star and My Generation, but the LA Times points out there are no new hits like & to bolster appearances:
Two weeks into the fall TV season, the broadcast networks have gotten off to one of their most sluggish starts ever. For the first time in at least five years, not a single new show has cracked the top 10 either among total viewers or the advertising-friendly demographic of adults aged 18 to 49, according to the Nielsen Co. Even CBS' remake of "," with its familiar brand name and 10 p.m. Monday time slot, has failed to sizzle and has tumbled compared with " : Miami" last year.
It's might be worth noting that: Miami went on to drop quite a bit from its premiere numbers last year, so in a few weeks the gap between last year's : Miami and could be irrelevant if H50 doesn't drop much. But that doesn't get it into the top ten either.
In his LA Times piece, Scott Collins goes the Occam's Razor route and suggests the simplest reason might be that the new shows aren't very good.
