Bye Bye Caprica? According to Alessandra Torresani who stars in the show, yes.
Commenter "goodridd" noted that Ms. Torresani said on Tuesday's AOTS (G4's Attack of the Show) that Caprica would be canceled if they didn’t at least match the numbers for the mid season finale.
She did. Her exact words:
Tonight is a really important episode because if we don't get as good as the viewership that we had for the season finale of 1.0, they're gonna cancel the show.
Here's the video -- those comments come a the 2:30 mark.
Sure, she might have just been stumping for ratings, but she was also stumping to be cast in the lead role for the new Wonder Woman series David E. Kelley is reportedly developing for Warner Bros.
The season 1.5 premiere of Caprica saw fewer viewers and adults 18-49 than the finale of season 1.0. The finale in March averaged 1.1 million and a 0.5 rating with adults 18-49. Last night's return drew 889,000 viewers and a 0.4 rating with adults 18-49.

The fact that Ronald D Moore is working on not one, but two pilots probably isn’t a great sign.
Kind of feels like Babylon 5 with the early cancellation of Crusade, but with Caprica it’s even worse because it’s a prequel.
It’s difficult for me to even give this show a chance. All I can think about is how they are gonna be completely destroyed by nukes anyway.
Yeah, I was a big fan of this show, and I had zero idea it was back. I have seen not a single ounce of promotion in any media, not so much as an annoying Flash ad.
I caught a blog post mentioning it was back last evening, but my DVR already has 3 shows trying to record at the 10pm hour, and Caprica makes a 4th.
Where was the marketing on this?
Bingo card:
Perhaps Syfy put Caprica and SGU where it did so the shows could die and justify cancelling them.
Come on, this was an off hand comment (you would think SyFy will wait a few more weeks) — I mean if you’re show was struggling, you’d want to put mass urgency into the fanbase if they’re listening. The show has not been given a fair go. Yanked off the air on a Friday night for six months after 9 episodes. Near one year hiatus if SyFy hadn’t changed its mind (three weeks ago?). And to top it off, you’ve got guys like Joe who cannot see Caprica as a separate entity from BSG. This is probably hurting the ratings, too.
Jesus christ, I wish I was dumb enough to enjoy Jersey Shore…
With that said, it needs consistent up-ticks in ratings from here on out. It can’t go backwards, and for the love of gods even if SyFy cans it, please air the rest of the episodes in week-after-week succession. How do you expect a character-plot driven show to survive when it has a six month vacation in between what should have been a non-interrupted storyline for a viewer.
@ Ben
There was some social media marketing. But SyFy decided to bring the show back early via a press release less than a month ago.
Talked about this earlier. They brought it back early not to help the ratings, but to run out of the episodes faster. This way Moore’s obligations to Universal are finished and he can get to work full time on Sony.
That’s why they moved it up. Not to save the show, to end it faster.
@ Dave
Yeah I think its kinda obvious that Syfy figured there was no real future in the show, and just sort decided to go ahead and burn it off.
Can SGU get canceled with it? Please?
You want two serialized shows to get canceled and replaced with some sci-fi procedurals? I don’t even like SGU, but I support more serialized shows, so we can have a balance and a sci-fi channel like CBS.
i agree it’s going to get cancelled, but i don’t think this actress knows anything.
Syfy will probably air most of the first season episodes before making a final decision as they are already completed.
Anyone know how season 1.0 DVD sales are doing?
“You want two serialized shows to get canceled and replaced with some sci-fi procedurals?”
Nah, they’re more likely to be replaced with another Ghost Hunters-type reality show. I am baffled by those who actively *root* for scripted dramas to fail.
Ouch! Well, the show is so-so at best. Season 1.0 all over the place and last night’s premiere was just okay.
Syfy has shows in development. It’s just a matter of making a comittment and producing them for next season. They can easily cancel SGU and Caprica, the new shows can hardly get worse ratings and the more established, successful shows on Syfy are doing quite well so it’s not like there is nothing for Syfy to air if these shows are gone.
The talk about her outfit was obvious pandering, but the talk about cancellation if the numbers were any lower felt pretty candid to me. She didn’t really seem like she would be too disappointed if it were canceled, though. Maybe because of the whole Wonder Woman thing that was mentioned in the article?
She wants to be Wonder Woman? Is she kidding? Look at her! Not even remotely muscled up or boobed up enough to even consider being Wonder Woman! Can she do ballet kicks like Summer Glau? Bet not. I wouldn’t consider Summer Glau for the part, let alone this chick (cute as she is).
Girl, get a CLUE! Wonder Woman is an AMAZON! What part of AMAZON don’t you get?
Dave,
I’d guess like many of us, Torresani sometimes uses ‘canceled’ interchangeably with “not renewed.” At last night’s levels I don’t see Syfy yanking it off the air, but I don’t see them renewing it either.
Both this an SGU are probably not that long for this world.
Next year the scifi shows will be Orion and Sherwood – and I’m betting both will be a lot less depressing in tone.
Damn it’s a solid show w/so much left to show us. The 1st half of the 1st season was excellent. I’m so disappointed that people aren’t tuning into it. All I can think is that there isn’t enough action for the BSG fans. This show is not about the action, it’s a real thinking persons show. Granted most people don’t watch TV to think, they just want to be taken away & forget about it. The cast is great & they all are very convincing and meld well w/each other. With those ratings I guess it will be canceled. Another solid show that will go the way of “Firefly.” What a pity. I really do like Torresani & she could make an excellent “Wonder Woman.”
