Premiere week (September 20-26) saw Grey's Anatomy, 90210 and Hawaii Five-0 top our three rankings for additions between Same Day and Live+7 Day DVR viewing.
Grey's Anatomy lead all shows for ratings added after airdate via DVR viewing, adding 1.4 adults 18-49 ratings points to its Live+Same Day adults 18-49 ratings.
90210 topped the % ratings increase from DVR viewing, adding 44% to its Live+Same Day adults 18-49 ratings. As is typical when they're in first run episodes, CW shows crowded the top of the % increase list.
And after talking to Robert, I have been persuaded to include average viewership increases as well. Formerly, I didn't bother because average viewership doesn't matter except for press releases. But based on the C+3 commercial ratings from premiere week, I am now convinced that none of these Live+7 ratings matter to the advertising revenue of the networks at all, so we'll give the people what they want!
Topping the average viewership increase between Same Day and Live+7 viewing is Hawaii Five-0 which added 3.5 million average viewers after its airdate.
One thing that readers new to Live+7 DVR ratings should note, no matter how much network press releases, or fan sites, would have you believe it, those Live+7 ratings increases will not save your marginally rated favorite shows. In fact, most show's C+3 commercial ratings were below their Live +Same Day program ratings. These Live+7 Day DVR ratings are primarily for PR purposes and Networks' Jedi Mind Tricks, they mean nothing to the advertising revenue for the different shows.

Definitions:
DVR (Time-shifted) Adults 18-49 Ratings – Program ratings for national sources are produced in three streams of data –Live, Live+Same Day (Live+SD) and Live+7 Day. Time shifted figures account for incremental viewing that takes place with DVRs. Live+Same Day(Live+SD) include viewing during the same broadcast day as the original telecast, with a cut-off of 3:00AM local time when meters transmit daily viewing to Nielsen for processing. Live+7 Day ratings include incremental viewing that takes place during the 7 days following a telecast.
DVR Ratings Increase Past Airdate - How many people watched the show on their DVRs within 7 days following the airdate
% of All Adults 18-49 Viewing By DVR Past Airdate - Of the total viewing of that particular episode, what percentage was done via DVR.
Up until the 2009-2010 season, we used the show's Live program rating or viewership as the base upon which the Live+7 day DVR viewing was added. Now, the press seems to be standardizing around using Live+Same Day DVR viewing as the base for the calculations, so that's what we do now as well.
