The Rangers beatdown of the New York Yankees in game four of the ALCS on TBS led all cable last night with 9.8 million viewers and a 3.3 adults 18-49 rating (trailing only CBS for the night). As I write this, the Yankees are up in game 5 by a score of 5-1 in the 5th inning. If that score holds up that's great news for TBS as it would ensure at least a six game series. If the Yankees lose game 5, the series is over.
A Teen Mom special was way off the 3.2 adults 18-49 rating last week's finale scored, but the special's 2.1 rating with adults 18-49 still led all cable other than the Yankees/Rangers game.
Sons Of Anarchy dropped to a 1.3 rating. And no, it can't be because of the Dish network situation. The drop a few weeks ago from a 1.8 to a 1.6 might be attributable to that, but it pulled a couple of 1.6 ratings after FX was pulled off of Dish. I'd chalk more of it up to the Yankees game. Interesting tweeting from Sutter on how S3 of SOA resonates with the female critics but has alienated the male critics.
If that's going on in the general population of viewers too, that's not great news since FX has always touted SOA's strength with younger males. There are no worries for the fans since SOA has already been renewed for a fourth season, but it might lead to some interesting discussions between Sutter and FX between seasons three and four. And it sounds like he's already hearing from FX more than he wants.
While SOA fans don't have to worry about next season, SGU and Caprica fans are already behind the worrying curve if they are just starting to worry now.
