Syndicated Ratings: Family Guy Weekend Leaps Over ‘Two and a Half Men,’ ‘Jeopardy’ and ‘Wheel of Fortune’

Who says nothing new ever happens at the top of the syndicated ratings?  Ok, *I* do. Practically. Every. Week.  But this week not so much.  In a week where the baseball playoffs provided stronger than usual competition for some of the syndies, Family Guy's weekend syndication leapfrogged over Two and a Half Men, Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune to the top of the syndicated charts increasing more than 100% from the previous week.

Fox didn't air a new Family Guy on October 17 due to baseball playoffs, and while I can't imagine the baseball playoffs explain all of Family Guy's success for the week,  no other explanations are jumping out.

Update: I'm told that the reason is multiple runs of the syndicated weekly  Family Guy on Adult Swim that are expected to continue until December.  My understanding prior to this had been that off network cable syndication was treated separately from the national syndicated rankings (local affiliates), but it turns out that it is counted so long as they air the same national commercials.

Oprah again bested Judge Judy in both household ratings and total viewers.

The Ellen DeGeneres Show was again outside of the top 25 rankings tying with  Maury in household rating at #30, though Maury took the various age/gender demographics victory.

Despite preemptions in a number of markets, rookie first-run strip Swift Justice with Nancy Grace scored a 1.3 rating and attracted 1,856,000 viewers on average per program to lead Oprah-spinoff Nate Berkus by 623,000 viewers, or, 51%.  Berkus got a 1.0 rating and 1,233,000 viewers on average per program.

Please note that the syndicated weekly results are delayed versus normal reporting.  While we get the broadcast and cable ratings for the prior Monday-Sunday period every Tuesday, there is an extra week of lag time with the syndicated ratings and these numbers are not for last week, but for the week before last.

ESPN Monday Night Football is syndicated to a local affiliate in the markets of the two teams playing.  Unfortunately (for us) Nielsen includes all of the viewing that happened on ESPN too (which was almost all of it) in the numbers below.  As a result, for the rest of football season Monday Night Football will show up at the top of this chart most weeks during football season because that's how Nielsen reports the data.
