Caprica has been cancelled by Syfy. It will be removed from the Syfy schedule as of November 2 and the remaining episodes rescheduled for sometime in the first quarter of 2011.
Even a few days ago Syfy's Mark Stern wouldn't admit publicly he knew the show's fate.
The show has struggled in the ratings. Here were the latest Caprica ratings from last Tuesday:
Caprica
- 0.718 million viewers
- 0.5/1 HH
- 0.3/1 A18-49

Update: Here is the Syfy press release:
Please note the following change to Syfy’s broadcast schedule:
The remaining first run episodes of Caprica – airing Tuesdays at 10/9c – will be removed from the schedule as of next Tuesday, November 2. These final five episodes of the season will be re-scheduled to air at a to be announced time in the first quarter of 2011, and will conclude the run of the series.
“We appreciate all the support that fans have shown for ‘Caprica’ and are very proud of the producers, cast, writers and the rest of the amazing team that has been committed to this fine series,“ said Mark Stern, Executive Vice President of Original Programming, Syfy and Co-Head of Content for Universal Cable Productions. “Unfortunately, despite its obvious quality, ‘Caprica’ has not been able to build the audience necessary to justify a second season.”
A detailed schedule change with complete and updated listings information will be issued tomorrow morning (Thursday, October 28).

kind of interesting that they pulled it completely off the schedule. No surprise on the cancellation though.
not surprising, can’t see why they can’t just burn off the remaining episodes now though instead of waiting til next year.
Yeah, intreating it god pulled, everyone expected the cancelation. Any chance of the same thing happening to SGU? Or maybe burning off the other part of the season later then begining of 2011…
Production was finished already, right?
@Pix
I think SGU is next to go. It’s as slow paced as Caprica. I would not be surprised if Syfy announces a new Stargate TV show.
Yeah I don’t know why they dont air the rest of them now either. Waiting until next year just means that NOBODY will watch them, instead of the few people (myself included) that would watch it finish out its run now.
Oh well. Saw it coming anyway. Let’s hope Blood & Chrome is able to live up to BSG standards (and ratings).
Thanks for your efforts Caprica!
I just wish syfy would try something new instead of beating dead horses like stargate and BSG.
@i1y
Yes, they completed all the episodes for the first season.
can’t say i didn’t see that coming, show wasn’t that great anyways, it had potential, but it probably wouldn’t have gone many places…oh well, guess we’ll just have to watch Blood & Chrome now.
I imagine they are holding off on airing the final episodes of Caprica until the Spring to help promote Blood and Chrome a little bit more. Although, I can’t see it helping that much…
On a different topic, is there any way to adjust the picture on the top of the front homepage? The widescreen rectangle image looks stretched out so much that every time I visit this site, I think there is something wrong with my monitor.
@Bill Gorman,
Do you have any projections on the chances of Stargate Universe to get a season 3? I know the cancellation bear is still hungry, and SGU hasn’t been performing that much better than Caprica (though holding steady in its ratings when moved from Friday to a more competitive time slot accounts for something, right? Maybe? Please! lol)
The ratings from last Tuesday were also not much better:
SGU 10/26:
HH Rating: 0.7
A18-49 Rating: 0.4
Total Viewers: 1.01 million
Caprica 10/26
HH Rating: 0.5
A18-49 Rating: 0.3
Total Viewers: 0.84 million
I am not surprised, that they cancelled Caprica. Its ratings were just horrible. But I am surprised that they stop showing the last few episodes this year. What will they show now in that time slot? Maybe double episodes of SGU? Another TNG episode? Will they move Sanctuary? Does anyone know more?
I agree with the posters above that SGU is the next to go; however, I wonder if SyFy will announce a new Stargate series before they axe SGU.
@Hotbrown
I was wondering about that too. Now we know why. I can’t say I’ll be all that sad to see it go. I hope Battlestar: B&C is a much better show.
I’m not surprised at the cancellation. I loved Battlestar and tried to love Caprica, but it just wasn’t going anywhere.
I’m sad about them not burning off the rest of the episodes now, though. As others have said, I can’t imagine why they would wait on it.
Pulling a show off schedule is unusual for a cable network isn’t it? Don’t they usually just let a low performing show ride out the season and then cancel it?
This is so strange – assuming there are still fans wanting to watch the shows till the bitter end, by yanking it off the air, changing and delaying the re-schedule show time to next year for the remaining episodes, the execs @ Syfy are showing their ultimate contempt for the fans & the creators alike.
Move along. There is nothing to see here.
SGU is definetly next, but it won’t be cancelled (officially anyway) until 2.5 starts up.
With Caprica canceled I wonder if we’ll be able to fill up some squares on our Fan Excuse Bingo cards.
I don’t think there are any excuses. It floped. Plain and simple.
