The seventh week of the broadcast season (November 1-7) saw Modern Family, Grey's Anatomy, Outlaw, Fringe and Hawaii Five-0 top our different rankings for additions between Same Day (until 3am after the airdate) and Live+7 Day DVR viewing.
Note that Tuesday of the week covered by these ratings was election night, and many shows were either pre-empted or in repeats.
Grey's Anatomy and Modern Family lead all shows for adults 18-49 ratings added after airdate via DVR viewing, adding 1.3 adults 18-49 ratings points to their Live+Same Day adults 18-49 ratings.
The now cancelled Outlaw topped the % adults 18-49 ratings increase from DVR viewing, adding 50% to its Live+Same Day adults 18-49 ratings. Among shows not yet cancelled, Fringe added 44% to its Live+Same Day adults 18-49 ratings.
Hawaii Five-0 topped the absolute average viewership gained from DVR viewing, adding 3.23 million average viewers via DVR viewing between the Live+Same Day and Live + 7 day measurement periods.
These Live+7 day program ratings mean nothing to the network advertising revenues or the renewal prospects of your favorite shows that we didn't already know from the Live + Same Day ratings we had more than two weeks ago. Definitions:
DVR (Time-shifted) Adults 18-49 Ratings – Program ratings for national sources are produced in three streams of data –Live, Live+Same Day (Live+SD) and Live+7 Day. Time shifted figures account for incremental viewing that takes place with DVRs. Live+Same Day(Live+SD) include viewing during the same broadcast day as the original telecast, with a cut-off of 3:00AM local time when meters transmit daily viewing to Nielsen for processing. Live+7 Day ratings include incremental viewing that takes place during the 7 days following a telecast.
DVR Ratings Increase Past Airdate - How many people watched the show on their DVRs within 7 days following the airdate
Until the 2009-2010 season, we used a show's LIVE program rating or viewership as the base upon which the LIVE+7 day DVR viewing was added. Now, the press seems to be standardizing around using LIVE+SAME DAY DVR viewing as the base for the calculations, so that's what we do now as well.
