ABC Runs a Strong No. 2 for the November Sweep in Viewers and Young Adults, Ranking a Definitive No. 1 Among Adults 18-49 in the Non-Sports Averages

Net Airs 5 of the Top 10 TV Shows in November with Adults 18-49, Including

The No. 1 Scripted Show, the No. 1 Drama and the No. 1 Unscripted Series

ABC’s Wednesday Comedy Block Makes Huge Gains November-to-November

November 2010 (Complete - 28 Nights):

ABC finished a strong No. 2 in November 2010 among Total Viewers (10.0 million) and Adults 18-49 (2.8/8).  In fact among Adults 18-49, ABC beat out a World Series-boosted Fox (2.7/8) and ran in a virtual-tie with CBS (2.9/8) for No. 1 (pacing within 1-tenth of a rating point and tied in audience share).  The Net won the November Sweep for the 5th straight year across all key Women demographics: W18-34 (2.9/9), W18-49 (3.6/10) and W25-54 (4.5/11).  Excluding sports to level the playing field for the boosts that the other nets gained from professional sports coverage (NFL games and overruns/World Series), ABC (2.9/8) was a definitive No. 1 for the 2010 November Sweep in Adults 18-49, outdelivering No. 2 CBS by 7% (2.7/8), No. 3 Fox by 32% (2.2/6) and No. 4 NBC by 61% (1.8/5).

  • Highest-Rated TV Series: ABC claimed 5 of the Top 10 TV series during November 2010 in Adults 18-49, more than any other net, including the No. 1 scripted program (“Modern Family”), the No. 1 drama (“Grey’s Anatomy”) and the No. 1 unscripted series (“DWTS”): “Modern Family” – No. 2, “Grey’s Anatomy” – No. 4, “Desperate Housewives” – No. 7, “DWTS” – No. 9 and “DWTS: The Results” – No. 10. ABC’s “DWTS” qualified as the most-watched TV show overall for the month, while “DWTS: The Results” ranked No. 3.  In addition, ABC delivered 6 of the Top 7 TV series of the sweep with Women 18-49

  • Growing Wednesday Night Comedy Block: During November, ABC’s Wednesday 8:00-10:00 p.m. comedy block was up by wide margins across the board over last year: Total Viewers +30%, AD18-34 +29%, AD18-49 +32%, Teens 12-17 +36% and Kids 2-11 +38%.
  • Biggest Individual Telecasts: The Network aired 5 of the Top 6 highest-rated entertainment telecasts for November in Adults 18-49.  Additionally with the 11th-season finales of “DWTS: The Results” and “DWTS,” respectively, ABC claimed TV’s Top 2 most-watched telecasts overall during the November Sweep (any net/any night).
  • Year to Year ABC Series Gainers in November: In Total Viewers and Adults 18-49, a number of ABC’s returning series experienced year-to-year growth in November: “DWTS” (+14%/+14%), “Castle” (+6%/+4%), “DWTS: The Results Show” (+14%/+8%), “The Middle” (+47%/+40%), “Modern Family” (+46%/+50%) and “Cougar Town” (+7%/+15%) .
