Live+7 DVR Ratings: ‘House,’ ‘Parenthood,’ ‘Hawaii Five-0’ Top Week’s Rankings

This is an archived article and the information in the article may be outdated. Please look at the time stamp on the story to see when it was last updated.

Note that our source for Live+7 DVR ratings includes only original, regular programs, excluding both repeats (which are unlikely to heavily DVR viewed anyway) and “specials”. During Thanksgiving week below, there were a number of original episodes designated as “specials” by the networks that were therefore not included in the rankings.

The tenth week of the broadcast season (Thanksgiving week, November 22-28) had House, Parenthood and Hawaii Five-0 top our different rankings for additions between Same Day (until 3am after the airdate) and Live+7 Day DVR viewing.

House lead all shows for adults 18-49 ratings added after airdate via DVR viewing, adding 1.3 adults 18-49 ratings points to its Live+Same Day adults 18-49 ratings.

Parenthood topped the % adults 18-49 ratings increase from DVR viewing, adding 42% to its Live+Same Day adults 18-49 ratings.

Hawaii Five-0 topped the absolute average viewership gained from DVR viewing, adding 3.338 million average viewers via DVR viewing between the Live+Same Day and Live + 7 day measurement periods.

These Live+7 day program ratings mean nothing to the network advertising revenues or the renewal prospects of your favorite shows that we didn’t already know from the Live + Same Day ratings we had more than two weeks ago. If you’d like to learn why, read Network Jedi Mind Tricks: Live+7 Ratings And Your Favorite Show.

Unfortunately, the Jedi Mind Tricks still work on some people.

The average viewership increase From DVR Viewing ranks which of the top broadcast shows [by Live+7 viewers] had the largest absolute increase in average viewership by DVR between the Live + Same Day and Live + 7 day ratings measurements.

Definitions:

DVR (Time-shifted) Adults 18-49 Ratings – Program ratings for national sources are produced in three streams of data –LiveLive+Same Day (Live+SD) and Live+7 Day. Time shifted figures account for incremental viewing that takes place with DVRs. Live+Same Day(Live+SD) include viewing during the same broadcast day as the original telecast, with a cut-off of 3:00AM local time when meters transmit daily viewing to Nielsen for processing. Live+7 Day ratings include incremental viewing that takes place during the 7 days following a telecast.

DVR Ratings Increase Past Airdate – How many people watched the show on their DVRs within 7 days following the airdate

Until the 2009-2010 season, we used a show’s LIVE program rating or viewership as the base upon which the LIVE+7 day DVR viewing was added. Now, the press seems to be standardizing around using LIVE+SAME DAY DVR viewing as the base for the calculations, so that’s what we do now as well.
