He is Martha Stewart’s go-to guy in the world of four-legged and winged beasts, from dogs to cats, rabbits to ferrets, parrots to canaries, and he is bringing his wisdom to Hallmark Channel for a new season of Petkeeping with Marc Morrone. Premiering Monday, January 3 (12p.m. ET), each half-hour episode will reveal what viewers need to know about caring for their pets.
Marc’s 30 years of experience combined with his quirky and charming approach to taking care of his friends in the animal kingdom makes this subject informational and highly entertaining. Joined by top animal behaviorists and veterinarians along with his trademark menagerie of pets, the show is filmed in Parrots of the World, Marc’s pet shop, in Rockville Centre, New York. Customers and their family pets stop by seeking Marc’s advice on every topic from common cat/dog myths and misconceptions to how to keep children and pets safe and happy while living under the same roof.
Through dialogue, demonstration and Marc’s personal and professional experience, he shares valuable tips and insights needed for responsible and enjoyable petkeeping. This season he looks at plus-sized pets, baby pets, older pets, high-maintenance pets, traveling with pets, children and pets, and more. Below is an overview of the first week of episodes of this fun and family friendly program.
EPISODE 1: NEW SPACES: MOVING AND TRAVELING WITH PETS
PREMIERES MONDAY, JANUARY 3 AT 12:00 – 12:30PM ET
Marc explains how to make pets comfortable in new spaces, such as a move or vacation. Customer Sabena comes to the store with her son Carlo to ask Marc about taking their dog Bella on an upcoming plane trip. Marc shows them a variety of crates, cages and boxes that work best for moves and most importantly how to coax the pets inside! Marc shares the best ways to identify pets, from dog tags to microchips, so that they can be reunited safe and sound if they get separated from their owners. Surrounded by his trademark menagerie, Marc also talks to veterinary behaviorist Dr. E’Lise Christensen about how to make animals feel comfortable when we’re taking them on long trips.
EPISODE 2: CHILDREN & PETS
PREMIERES TUESDAY, JANUARY 4 AT 12:00 – 12:30PM ET
Marc gives his tips for making sure everyone’s safe and happy when pets and kids are living under the same roof. Customer Tara comes to the store to get Marc’s advice on how to make sure her young daughters are safe around her birds, and how to handle their complaints about her bulldog. Marc talks about the birds that are just the right size – and temperament – to share the house with kids and also explains the difference between caring for hamsters, gerbils, guinea pigs, and other rodents – and why they’re the perfect pets for children. Additionally, Marc talks to a public school teacher (and one of his favorite customers), Timothy, who uses pets in the classroom to teach valuable lessons to his students.
EPISODE 3: COMMON CAT PROBLEMS & SOLUTIONS

Marc explores some of the most common concerns that come up for cat owners. Customer Carol comes to the store to ask Marc how to handle her rescued cat, Luke, who seems like a compulsive eater. Marc explains how to pick the best food for cats, and goes over the pros and cons of various types, from raw and natural to processed and convenient. Marc also shares his tips for avoiding “litterbox accidents” – he’ll explain how to make sure your cats go where you want them to go. Surrounded by his trademark menagerie, Marc talks to veterinarian Dr. Marty Goldstein about the most common reasons why cats end up in his office, and the principles of care that every cat owner needs to know.
EPISODE 4: COMMON DOG PROBLEMS & SOLUTIONS

Marc details some of the most common concerns for dog owners. Customer Linda visits the store to get Marc’s opinion on how to handle her dogs Jack and Nino, who have a tendency to compete for her attention. Marc explains why there’s no such thing as “spiteful” dog behavior, why we shouldn’t interpret their natural impulses in human emotional terms, and how to handle common behavioral problems. Marc goes over his tips for trimming your dog’s nails, without all the drama. Surrounded by his trademark menagerie, Marc talks to veterinary behaviorist Dr. E’Lise Christensen about handling your dogs’ psychological and medical problems.
EPISODE 5: HIGH-MAINTENANCE PETS

Marc explores some of the pets that require more careful handling than your regular old dog or cat and explains how to keep them healthy and happy.

Marc’s television career first began in 1994 with a pet show on a local New York cable access channel. Martha Stewart saw Marc’s show in 1998 and invited him to make an appearance on the Martha Stewart Living television show, after which he soon became a regular guest. In the fall of 2003, Marc became host of his own nationally syndicated series Petkeeping with Marc Morrone, which aired for 3 years. He currently writes a syndicated pets column for Newsday, hosts “Ask Marc, the Petkeeper,” on Martha Stewart Living Radio and has a weekly show on News 12 New York called Animal Island.
