Manchester United vs. Arsenal Sets Premier League Viewership Record on U.S. Cable TV

Most-watched EPL match on ESPN Deportes

Last Monday’s Barclays Premier League match, a 1-0 home win for Manchester United over Arsenal, was seen on ESPN2 by an average of 438,000 homes (570,000 viewers, P2+), making it the most-watched Premiership telecast on U.S. cable television, according to Nielsen.  The telecast outdelivered the previous high – 420,000 homes (526,000 viewers) for Manchester United vs. Chelsea on Saturday, April 3, 2010.

Through the first 21 matches of the season, ESPN2 is averaging a 0.3 household rating, 261,000 households and 324,000 viewers, increases of 50% in ratings (0.2), 24% in households (211,000) and 25% in viewers (260,000 P2+) versus the first 20 matches in the 2009 – 2010 season.

Additionally, Monday’s Manchester United vs. Arsenal match was the most-viewed Premier League telecast on ESPN Deportes, the Spanish-language sports network which began featuring EPL matches this season.  The match earned a 2.4 Hispanic coverage rating, representing 125,000 Hispanic households (175,000 Hispanic viewers, P2+).
