The eleventh week of the broadcast season (November 29 - December 5) had Grey's Anatomy and The Good Guys top our different rankings for additions between Same Day (until 3am after the airdate) and Live+7 Day DVR viewing.
Grey's Anatomy lead all shows for adults 18-49 ratings added after airdate via DVR viewing, adding 1.3 adults 18-49 ratings points to its Live+Same Day adults 18-49 ratings. Glee, in second place, added 1.2 adults 18-49 ratings points.
The Good Guys (now reported to be cancelled) topped the % adults 18-49 ratings increase from DVR viewing, adding 43% to its Live+Same Day adults 18-49 ratings. So much for Live+ 7 Day DVR viewing increases helping to "save" a show.
Grey's Anatomy also topped the absolute average viewership gained from DVR viewing, adding 2.794 million average viewers via DVR viewing between the Live+Same Day and Live + 7 day measurement periods. Glee, again in second place, added 2.598 million average viewers.
These Live+7 day program ratings mean nothing to the network advertising revenues or the renewal prospects of your favorite shows that we didn't already know from the Live + Same Day ratings we had more than two weeks ago. Definitions:
DVR (Time-shifted) Adults 18-49 Ratings – Program ratings for national sources are produced in three streams of data –Live, Live+Same Day (Live+SD) and Live+7 Day. Time shifted figures account for incremental viewing that takes place with DVRs. Live+Same Day(Live+SD) include viewing during the same broadcast day as the original telecast, with a cut-off of 3:00AM local time when meters transmit daily viewing to Nielsen for processing. Live+7 Day ratings include incremental viewing that takes place during the 7 days following a telecast.
DVR Ratings Increase Past Airdate - How many people watched the show on their DVRs within 7 days following the airdate
Until the 2009-2010 season, we used a show's LIVE program rating or viewership as the base upon which the LIVE+7 day DVR viewing was added. Now, the press seems to be standardizing around using LIVE+SAME DAY DVR viewing as the base for the calculations, so that's what we do now as well.
