A massive facial tumor threatens to kill Jose Mestre. An explosive growth of blood vessels covers his entire face, blinding him in one eye and blocking his ability to eat and breathe. In search of a miracle, Jose and his sister Edith travel from Portugal to Chicago, where plastic surgeon Dr. McKay McKinnon attempts to perform life-saving surgery.
