“GMA” Posts Second Largest Total Viewing Audience in 2 Years

“GMA” Cuts Total Viewing and Demo Gaps with NBC’s “Today” Year-to-Year

“GMA” Expands Demo Lead Over CBS’ “Early Show” to Largest in 8 Months

ABC’s “Good Morning America” averaged 4.92 million Total Viewers and a 1.6/11/1.94 million in Adults 25-54 for the week of January 17, 2011, its best performance in 5 weeks (since w/o 12/13/10) and second strongest of the season.  In fact, “GMA” drew its 2nd-largest overall audience in 2 years – since w/o 1/26/09.

For the 3rd straight week, “GMA” built on the prior week in Total Viewers (+4%) and Adults 25-54 (+7%).  In addition, “GMA” improved compared to last year in Total Viewers (+13%) and Adults 25-54 (+3%). Further, “GMA” stood as the only morning network news program to post week-to-week and year-to-year increases in both Total Viewers and Adults 25-54.

Season to date, “GMA” is the only morning program up compared to the competition in Total Viewers (+5%) versus its year-ago average (NBC’s “Today” is down -4%, CBS’ “Early Show” is flat).

Versus the prior week, “GMA” shrank the total viewing gap (680,000) by -40% and Adults 25-54 (660,000) gap by -25% with “Today.” In fact, “GMA” saw its 2nd smallest margin of the season with “Today” in the key adult news demo.

“GMA” bested CBS’ “Early Show,” by 2.09 million Total Viewers and by 750,000 Adults 25-54 viewers, registering its largest advantage over the CBS program among Adults 25-54 in 8 months – since w/o 5/3/10.

Friday’s broadcast (1/21/10) of “GMA” drew the ABC program’s strongest telecast in Adults 25-54 (2.06 million) of the season. Furthermore, Friday marked “GMA's” best telecast performance in the key news demo in 10 months – since 3/8/10.

*Note: Due to the Martin Luther King holiday, ABC's, CBS' and NBC's Monday telecast were coded as specials and excluded from the weekly average.

The Emmy Award-winning morning news program, featuring the anchor team of Robin Roberts, George Stephanopoulos, Sam Champion and Juju Chang, airs live Monday through Friday from 7:00-9:00 a.m., ET on the ABC Television Network. Jim Murphy is the senior executive producer and Tom Cibrowski is the executive producer of ABC’s “Good Morning America.”
