11th Annual CELEBRATION OF GOSPEL Reigns Supreme As #1 Religious Telecast On Television
Network Posts 23% Viewership Gains Amid New Scripted Programming THE GAME And LET’S STAY TOGETHER Along With CELEBRATION OF GOSPEL
NEW YORK – February 1, 2011 – BET celebrates another record breaking milestone as the Network closes the month with historic ratings with an average of 621,000 viewers. Led by double-digit gains among total viewers (23%),BET ranked #2 among all top 25 ad-supported cable networks according to the Nielsen Company. Contributing to these gains:
- The incredible performance of the January 11th premiere of THE GAME, which was viewed by 7.7 million viewers;
- THE GAME viewership kept its momentum going with an average of 6 million viewers in January;
- The new companion sitcom, LET’S STAY TOGETHER ,also maintained impressive numbers with an average of 3.4 million viewers in January;
- January 2011 movies were up double-digits compared to a year ago (+18%); and
- The January 30 telecast of CELEBRATION OF GOSPEL was the #1 within its franchise garnering a record 2.75 million viewers.
On January 30th at 8:00 p.m.*, 2.75 million viewers and 1.8 million households tuned in to watchCELEBRATION OF GOSPEL garnering a 2.02 coverageaccording to the Nielsen Company. It was the #1 gospel/religious telecast for the 11th consecutive year and the #1 CELEBRATION OF GOSPEL telecast in BET history. Hosted by Steve Harvey, CELEBRATION OF GOSPEL featured breathtaking performances by Whitney Houston, Kim Burrell, Chaka Khan, Kirk Franklin, Mary Mary, El DeBarge, VaShawn Mitchell and more.
