Season Opening Event Up +2% on Saturday to Win Night
Sunday’s Daytona 500 Qualifying Posts +19% Gain Over 2010
Daytona Beach, FL – The 2011 NASCAR on FOX season got off to a roaring start this weekend, posting ratings increases for Saturday night’s Budweiser Shootout and Sunday’s Daytona 500 Qualifying from Daytona International Speedway.
According to fast national numbers released by Nielsen Media Research for Saturday night’s race, the 2011 Budweiser Shootout on FOX earned a 4.5/8 household rating/share (7.8 million viewers), up +2% over last year’s 4.4/8. The inaugural NASCAR event gave FOX an easy win for the night among broadcast networks, averaging a 2.4 among Adults 18-49, more than doubling the 0.9 earned by both ABC and CBS.
Daytona 500 Qualifying on Sunday afternoon, which saw fan-favorite Dale Earnhardt Jr. secure the pole for next weekend’s Daytona 500, posted a 1.9/5 overnight rating/share. That’s a +19% gain over last year’s 1.6/4. National ratings for Daytona 500 Qualifying will be available on Thursday.
