“World News with Diane Sawyer” Narrows Total Viewing and Demo Gaps with NBC
Both Week-to-Week and Year-to-Year
“World News” Outperforms CBS by 1.87 Million Total Viewers and 210,000 Adults 25-54
For the week of February 14, 2011, “ABC World News with Diane Sawyer” averaged 7.97 million Total Viewers and a 1.7/7 share/2.13 million among Adults 25-54, according to Nielsen Media Research.
For the 2nd week running, “World News” narrowed the margins with “NBC Nightly News” compared to the previous week and the same week last year in both Total Viewers (-5% and -66%, respectively) and Adults 25-54 (-2% and -58%, respectively).
“World News” outperformed the “CBS Evening News” by 1.87 million viewers and by 210,000 Adults 25-54. “World News” expanded its Total Viewer lead (+13%) over the CBS program from the same week last year for the 6th week in a row.
Note: David Muir anchored “World News” on Friday. Week-to-week, the 6:30p-7p Households using television (HUT) level was down -5%, while the People Using Television (PUT) levels among Adults 25-54 was down -7% and Total Viewers down -6%.
Last week “World News” continued to provide comprehensive coverage of the unrest in the Middle East with reporting from Miguel Marquez in Bahrain and Lama Hasan in Cairo, Egypt. The broadcast also covered the President’s announcement of his proposed budget cuts. In addition, “World News” aired an investigation by Abbie Boudreau about American children that are torn away from their American fathers by Japanese mothers.
