NEW YORK – March 17, 2011 – The top five NHL teams in points – the Canucks (103), Flyers (93), Capitals (92), Red Wings (92) and Penguins (90)– will all compete on either NBC or VERSUS this Sunday-Wednesday with Detroit and Pittsburgh appearing twice.

Coverage begins Sunday with the Pittsburgh Penguins hosting the New York Rangers at 12:30 p.m. ET on NBC’s “NHL Game of the Week.” Every game counts for the Rangers, who are currently in seventh place in the Eastern Conference with 78 points and are vying to hold onto one of last remaining playoff spots. NBCSports.com will also stream the game live.

Mike “Doc” Emrick (play-by-play), Eddie Olczyk (analyst) and Pierre McGuire (inside-the-glass analyst) call the action on NBC. Liam McHugh will host NBC Sports’ studio show with analysts Mike Milbury and McGuire on site at CONSOL Energy Center.

The Penguins, currently fourth in the Eastern Conference standings, will turnaround and travel to Detroit to face the Red Wings, who rank second in the Western Conference, on Monday night on VERSUS.

VERSUS’ Tuesday night matchup features the East’s top two teams with the defending Eastern Conference-champion Flyers hosting the red-hot Capitals, who have won nine of 10 games. On Wednesday night, the two best teams in the West meet when the Red Wings host the Canucks, who have won seven straight and lead all teams with 47 wins and 103 points.

VERSUS inside-the-glass analyst Brian Engblom on Tuesday night’s game: “Washington is on a roll and appears stronger as a result of their tough stretch in December. Philadelphia has been a force all season. This matchup is between two of the best.”
