|NBC SPORTS & GOLF DIGEST TEAM UP FOR 2011 GOLF DIGEST EQUIPMENT SPECIAL|
Airs Sunday at 1:30 PM ET
Program Demystifies Equipment, Examines Counterfeit Clubs
|NEW YORK – March 24, 2011 – For the third consecutive year, NBC Sports and Golf Digest have teamed up to present the Golf Digest Equipment Special, an insider’s look at the newest trends in golf technology and equipment. The special airs this Sunday at 1:30 p.m. ET, prior to final-round “Golf Channel on NBC” coverage of the Arnold Palmer Invitational.
This year’s program is again hosted by NBC Sports’ Brian Crowell and Dottie Pepper from the floor of the PGA Merchandise Show and features commentary from Golf Digest’s Equipment Editor Mike Johnson and Senior Equipment Editor Mike Stachura. The show aims to demystify golf equipment for the average golfer by gathering input from many of the leading industry manufacturers, including TaylorMade, Adams Golf, Callaway, Cleveland, Titleist, Mizuno, Ping, Nike and Bridgestone. For the first time, the program also takes on an issue that plagues the industry – counterfeit clubs.
“We think the 2011 Golf Digest Equipment Show is the best yet,” said Golf Digest Brand Editor Bob Carney. “It not only presents and explains the latest technology in golf equipment, it explores some of the funniest gadgets out there, too. On a serious note our editors help you identify knock-offs, a pernicious presence that can sabotage your golf equipment budget with bad gear. We think viewers will find this year’s program both fun and informative.”
As with the previous two equipment specials, this year’s show takes viewers through the golf bag, from drivers to irons to wedges to putters to balls to shoes. It touches on all the relevant technologies that help golfers play better and includes commentary from PGA and LPGA TOUR players, as well as equipment experts from the manufacturers themselves. This year’s program also playfully debates the merits of golf video games versus golf simulators.
“It’s a privilege to partner with Golf Digest on this valuable annual special that truly serves the golfer,” said Jon Miller, President, Programming, NBC Sports and VERSUS. “Viewers should pay particular attention to the counterfeit-club segment this year because it will help them learn how to spot inferior imitation equipment.”
