Novela Debut is #2 Program Among Adults 18-34 and Persons 12-34, Behind FOX’s “American Idol

Beats or Ties “American Idol” in Key Demos in Los Angeles, Miami and Houston

MIAMI, FL, MARCH 31, 2011 – “Teresa,” the novela that made Salma Hayek an international star, premiered on Univision last night with ratings that can only be seen as good news for the star of this iteration, Angelique Boyer. With 4.9 million viewers tuning in at 9pm ET/PT, the one-hour premiere led the network to a third-place finish in the time period among Adults 18-49 (2.7 million viewers) – besting ABC and NBC – and a second-place ranking among Adults 18-34 (1.5 million) and Persons 12-34 (1.9 million) – behind only FOX.

On Wednesday night, “Teresa” was the second most-watched program on all of television, behind only FOX’s “American Idol,” among Adults 18-34 and Persons 12-34, and finished within the top 10 programs in Adults 18-49.

Powered by “Teresa,” which airs between hit novelas “Eva Luna” and “Triunfo del Amor” (Triumph of Love), Univision was the #2 Network for the entire night among Adults 18-34, Men 18-34, Women 18-34 and Persons 12-34; #3 among Adults 18-49, Men 18-49 and Women 18-49 , beating ABC and NBC; and #4 among Teens 12-17 and Total Viewers 2+.

“Teresa” is a scintillating story of a seductive woman named Teresa (Boyer) who is driven by her ambition and greed, and would rather lie and cheat her way out of poverty and into riches than achieve anything through hard work and honesty. Among the star-studded cast are Aarón Díaz, Sebastián Rulli, Ana Brenda Contreras, Cynthia Klitbo, Silvia Mariscal, Juan Carlos Colombo and Margarita Magaña.

The one-hour premiere of “Teresa” made Univision the #2 Network in the 9pm-10pm hour, behind FOX, among Men 18-34 and Women 18-34; #3 Network, beating ABC and NBC, among Men 18-49, Women 18-49 and Total Viewers 2.

Delivered more Persons 12-34 and Adults 18-34 than first-run episodes of ABC’s “Mr. Sunshine” and “Off The Map;” NBC’s “Minute To Win It” and “Law And Order: SVU” as well as the entire line-ups on CBS (“Survivor: Redemption Island,” “Criminal Minds” and “Criminal Minds: Suspect Behavior”) and CW (“America’s Next Top Model-10” and “Shedding for the Wedding”).

Averaged more Adult 18-49 viewers than original airings of ABC’s “Mr. Sunshine” and “Off The Map;” NBC’s “Minute To Win It” and CW’s “America’s Next Top Model-10” and “Shedding for the Wedding.”

Increased its lead-in audience from “Eva Luna” across the key demographic groups of Persons 12-34 (+16%), Adults 18-34 (+10%) and Adults 18-49 (+6%).

Ranked within the Top 10 programs on all of television among Teens 12-17, regardless of language.

Premiered higher among Total Viewers 2+, Adults 18-49, Women 18-49, Women 18-34, Persons 12-34 and Teens 12-17 compared to “Soy Tu Dueña’s” (Woman of Steel) debut (June 1, 2010) which went on to become the most-watched Spanish-language novela in U.S. television history among viewers 2+.
