Bubble Watch: Is 'Body of Proof' More Bad News for 'V' Fans?

When it comes to bubble status, like the Renew/Cancel Index we're focusing on the likelihood that a show will be renewed for next season (2011-12).  Certain shows are toss-ups where based on the ratings, the renewal decisions could go either way and not be surprising.

With Chuck having the week off, it's still on the bubble and will be next week too.  I know some think it should already be "likely to be canceled" and there is a case to make for that. If you're one of those people, it's possible you'll have your  "it took you long enough!" moment in a couple of weeks (Chuck is a repeat tomorrow).  The chronic haters who regularly chime in that Chuck is "certain to be canceled" aren't looking at the ratings, but that won't stop them from getting their "toldja!" in should Chuck get canceled.

There was a new Harry's Law this week and its ratings weren't great or even good, but for now it continues to teeter ever so slightly to more likely to be renewed than canceled.

ABC's Body Of Proof debuted with a 3.1 adults 18-49 rating.  Based on only that one data point, it's definitely more likely to be renewed than canceled. But in this case one data point is too soon. I've got it on the bubble for now pending more data. Some V fans have buttressed their arguments for V's renewal on how poorly ABC's new dramas have performed. Should Body Of Proof hold up reasonably well, V's prospects for renewal probably won't be any worse, but that won't stop some V fans for rooting for Body Of Proof to fail.

Meanwhile I'll brace for the inevitable "You were wrong about Fringe, you're wrong about V, too!" comments.

Chaos premiered to a "look away" 1.1 adults 18-49 rating. It's only one data point, but it's a data point that was so bad it doesn't get on the bubble. It's probably not too soon to declare it certain to be canceled, but for now, it's designated as "likely to be canceled."
