Total Viewing and Demo Audiences Year-to-Year
Week-to-Week, “World News” Narrows Demo Gap with NBC to Smallest Margin in 4 Weeks
“World News” Outperforms CBS by 2.24 Million Total Viewers and 480,000 Adults 25-54
For the week of March 28, 2011, “ABC World News with Diane Sawyer” averaged 7.86 million Total Viewers and a 1.7 rating/7 share/2.17 million among Adults 25-54, according to Nielsen Media Research. “World News” improved on its year-ago week performance in both Total Viewers (+11%) and Adults 25-54 (+15%) for the 5th straight week.
“World News” shrank its Adults 25-54 margin with NBC’s “Nightly News” versus the previous week for the 3rd week in a row (-17% - 440,000 vs. 530,000), posting the ABC program’s narrowest gap with NBC in the key adult news demo in 4 weeks – since w/o 2/28/11.
“World News” topped “CBS Evening News” by 2.24 million viewers and by 480,000 Adults 25-54, expanding its advantages over the CBS program from the same week last year (1.91 million and 330,000 on w/o 3/29/10) by double-digits in both Total Viewers (+17%) and Adults 25-54 (+45%).
