Ratings Notes for TBS, TNT, Cartoon Network, truTV; Including NBA Playoffs, 'Conan,' 'House Of Payne' & More

TNT
With the first round of the NBA Playoffs leading the way, TNT scored its best April ever. TNT achieved its personal best April in total day delivery of viewers (1,320,000), as well as in primetime delivery of adults 18-34 (621,000).

For the month, TNT ranked as basic cable’s #1 network in primetime delivery of adults 18-34 (621,000) and adults 18-49 (1,161,000), as well as total day delivery of adults 25-54 (626,000). The network also scored outstanding growth across the board in primetime compared to April 2010, with viewers up 10%, adults 18-34 up 20%, adults 18-49 up 15% and adults 25-54 up 9%.

TNT closed out April with its best week ever in total day delivery of viewers (1,715,000) and adults 18-34 (454,000). For the week, TNT was basic cable’s #1 primetime network across the board, with more than 3.5 million viewers, 1.1 million adults 18-34, 2 million adults 18-49, 1.8 million adults 25-54. TNT was also #1 in total day for the week among adults 18-49 (886,000) and adults 25-54 (846,000).

The NBA Playoffs on TNT continues to score with strong ratings and viewership through Sunday, April 24, averaging a 2.7 U.S. household rating (+35% vs. 2.0 for last year’s corresponding coverage); 4,274,000 total viewers (+39% vs. 3,068,000); and 3,140,000 households (+35% vs. 2,328,000). In addition, key adult and male demos have also had significant increases:

Adults 18-34: +43% 1,416,000 (vs. 990,000)
Adults 18-49: +46% 2,455,000 (vs. 1,685,000)
Adults 25-54: +41% 2,190,000 (vs. 1,553,000)
Men 18-34: +41% 1,007,000 (vs. 714,000)
Men 18-49: +47% 1,769,000 (vs. 1,205,000)
Men 25-54: +43% 1,564,000  (vs. 1,093,000)

Adult Swim
For April 2011, Adult Swim swept all young adult and young male demos on basic cable, ranking #1 for Total Day Delivery of adults 18-34 and 18-49, and men 18-34 and 18-49.  Among the standouts, men 18-34 average delivery (316,000) grew by 6% and men 18-49 delivery (451,000) grew by 9%.

The new original live-action series Eagleheart (Thursday, 12 a.m.) scored as April 2011’s #1 sitcom on basic cable among adults 18-34, adults 18-49, men 18-34 and men 18-49.

Adult Swim’s Emmy®-winning Robot Chicken (Sunday, 11:30 p.m.) charted gains across adults 18-49 and all men’s demos across April 2011: average adults 18-49 delivery (1,287,000) grew by 13%, men 18-34 delivery (567,000) grew by 17% and men 18-49 delivery (842,000) grew by 28%.

Across April 2010, Adult Swim programming accounted for 18 of the top 50 telecasts on basic cable for the month among adults 18-34, and 17 of the top 50 among men 18-34, more than any other network.

Cartoon Network
Across the month of April 2011, Cartoon Network’s Monday night line-up of original animated comedies—Adventure Time (8 p.m.), MAD (8:15 p.m.) and Regular Show (8:30 p.m.)—each ranked #1 in their timeslots on all television among kids 6-11, kids 2-11, boys 6-11 and boys 2-11.

April’s Friday nights of animated action-adventure programming earned double-digit delivery gains among kids 9-14 (468,000/ up 11%) and boys 9-14 (406,000/ up 14%) vs. April 2010.  Additionally, new episodes of Cartoon Network’s #1 action-adventure original series, Ben 10: Ultimate Alien (7:30 p.m.), averaged solid growth across all kids and boys demos: kids 6-11 delivery (555,000) grew by 5%, kids 2-11 (848,000) grew by 9%, kids 9-14 (529,000) grew by 38%, boys 6-11 delivery (460,000) grew by 5%, boys 2-11 delivery (625,000) grew by 2% and boys 9-14 delivery (434,000) grew by 34%.

For the final week of April, Cartoon Network charted good gains among Total Day ratings and delivery—kids 6-11 delivery (336,000) increased by 4% and ratings (1.4) by 8%, and kids 9-14 delivery (263,000) increased by 16% and ratings (1.1) by 22%.

TBS
TBS’s Wednesday sitcoms enjoyed another outstanding outing, with the 10:30 p.m. episode of Tyler Perry’s House of Payne ranking as basic cable’s top sitcom telecast for the week among viewers (2.2 million) and adults 18-49 (1.2 million). The 10 p.m. episode came in second for the week, with 2 million viewers and 1.1 million adults 18-49.

In late night, Conan averaged 1.1 million viewers in Live + Same Day delivery last week, up an outstanding 20% over the prior week. The show also scored 461,000 adults 18-34, up 7%; 743,000 adults 18-49, up 16%; and a median age of 34.

Live + 7 data for the week of April 4 shows that Conan’s total audience grew 18% over Live + Same Day, for a final delivery of more than 1.1 million viewers. Adults 18-34 grew an exceptional 27% over Live + Same Day, for a final tally of 585,000, and adults 18-49 grew 22% for a final delivery of 852,000. Conan also scored a median age of 31, which is tied it with TBS’s Lopez Tonight as the youngest among the late-night talk shows.

truTV
truTV enjoyed a solid performance in April, with several of the network’s original series delivering significant time-period growth. truTV also  continued its trend of appealing to younger demographics, lowering its median age from 46 in April 2010 to 44 in April 2011.

Leading the way for truTV in April was the hit series Hardcore Pawn (Tuesdays at 9 p.m.), which ranked among cable’s Top 5 entertainment programs in its timeslot with viewers (2 million, +92% vs. same time period last year); adults 18-34 (525,000, +259%); adults 18-49 (1.1 million, +110%); men 18-34 (304,000, up 201%)); and men 18-49 (648,000, +120%).

Operation Repo (Wednesdays at 9 p.m.) remained a truTV favorite, averaging more than 1.5 million viewers, up 45% vs. the same time period last year. truTV presents: World’s Dumbest (Thursdays at 9 p.m.) averaged 1.5 viewers, up 12%. And All Worked Up (Mondays at 9 p.m.) scored 1.4 viewers for the month. All three of those shows scored Top 5 cable entertainment finishes for their respective timeslots with key demos.

truTV.com attracted 2.6 million monthly unique visitors for April 2011, up an outstanding 50% over the same time last year. The site also delivered 21.7 million page views, an increase of 20% from April 2010.
