Obama Speech on Death of Osama bin Laden Watched By More Than 56 Million in the U.S.
Even with the late hour in the eastern and central time zones, President Obama’s announcement of the death of Osama bin Laden was watched by more than 56 million people in the U.S. across 9 networks according to Nielsen.
The nine-minute speech from 11:35 to 11:44 p.m. ET on ABC, CBS, NBC, Telemundo, Univision, CNN, Fox News, HLN and MSNBC averaged 56,512,179 viewers and had a combined household rating of 33.9.
That’s higher than any of Obama’s speeches and more than double the 25.6 million who watched the March 28 address regarding military action in Libya nearly 16 million more viewers than watched the Dec. 1, 2009 speech on Afghanistan that averaged 40.7 million viewers.
