“GMA” is Attracting its Largest Audience in 4 Years – Since the 2006/07 Season

 

“GMA” Continues to Grow in Total Viewers and Demo: Week-to-Week, Year-to-Year and Season-to-Date,

Marking 26 Consecutive Weeks of Year-to-Year Growth in Total Viewers

 

 

ABC News’ “Good Morning America” averaged 4.444 million Total Viewers and a 1.3/11/1.664 million in Adults 25-54 during the July 4, 2011 holiday week.  For the 2nd time in the last 3 weeks, “GMA” posted gains from the previous week in both Total Viewers (+2%) and Adults 25-54 (+3%).

 

“GMA” posted year-over-year growth in both Total Viewers (+14%) and Adults 25-54 (+5%) for the 11th consecutive week, growing its overall audience the most among the network morning news programs.  In addition, “GMA” increased its year-to-year Total Viewer improvement to 26 weeks in a row and in 39 of 42 weeks, overall, this season.

 

Season to date, “GMA” is up the most among the network morning news programs in Total Viewers (+9%) versus its year-ago average (NBC’s “Today” is up +1%; CBS’ “Early Show” is up +1%), attracting its largest audience in 4 years – since the 2006-2007 season. “GMA” is also up season to date among Adults 25-54 (+2%).

 

For the 4th week in a row, “GMA” decreased its Total Viewer margin with NBC’s “Today” by double-digits (-26% - 541,000 vs. 735,000) versus the year-earlier week.  In fact, “GMA” has cut its Total Viewer year-ago-week gap with the NBC program in 37 of 42 weeks of the season to date. Additionally, “GMA” cut its total viewer gap season-to-date by double-digits (-30%), posting its smallest Total Viewer gap with the NBC program in 4 years – since the 2006-07 season.   

 

For the 3rd time in as many weeks, “GMA” more than doubled the numbers of CBS’ “Early Show” in both Total Viewers (+109% - 4.444 million vs. 2.130 million) and Adults 25-54 (+121% - 1.666 million vs. 753,000).  Furthermore, excluding the week of the royal wedding (w/o 4/25/11), “GMA” scored its largest Adults 25-54 advantage (911,000) over the CBS program in over 2 years – since w/o 3/2/09.

 

Note: Due to the July 4th holiday on Monday, all three programs were coded specials and were excluded from the average.  The weekly averages for all three programs are based on 4 days only (Tuesday-Friday).
