“GMA” Posts Smallest Weekly Total Viewer Margin with NBC’s “Today” in 5 Months
“GMA” is Attracting its Largest Audience in 4 Years – Since the 2006/07 Season
“GMA” Outperforms “Today” in Total Viewers on Monday
“GMA” Continues to Grow in Total Viewers and Demo Week-to-Week, Year-to-Year and Season-to-Date:
Marking 27 Consecutive Weeks of Year-to-Year Growth in Total Viewers
ABC News’ “Good Morning America” averaged 4.595 million Total Viewers and a 1.4/12/1.739 million in Adults 25-54 during the week of July 11, 2011. Growing over the previous week for the 3rd time in the last 4 weeks in both Nielsen measures, “GMA” hit a 5-week high in the key adult news demo – best since w/o 6/06/11.
Increasing by double-digits, “GMA” posted year-over-year growth in both Total Viewers (+21%) and Adults 25-54 (+20%) for the 12th straight week. “GMA” improved the most year-to-year among the network morning news programs in both overall viewers and in the key adult news demo. Additionally, “GMA” stretched its year-over-year Total Viewer gains to 27 weeks in a row, and to 40 of 43 weeks overall this season.
On Monday (7/11/11), “GMA” outdrew NBC’s “Today” in Total Viewers (4.737 million vs. 4.734 million).
Season to date, “GMA” is up the most among the network morning news programs in Total Viewers (+9%) versus its year-ago average (NBC’s “Today” is up +1%; CBS’ “Early Show” is up +1%), attracting its largest audience in 4 years – since the 2006-2007 season. “GMA” is also up season to date among Adults 25-54 (+2%).
“GMA” decreased its weekly margins with NBC’s “Today” in Total Viewers by -16% (453,000 vs. 541,000), turning in its smallest Total Viewer margin in nearly 5 months – since w/o 2/21/11. In addition, “GMA” lowered its margins with the NBC morning program versus the year-ago week in both Total Viewers (-51% - 453,000 vs. 919,000) and Adults 25-54 (-8% - 572,000 vs. 623,000), cutting its year-over-year Total Viewer margin by double-digits for the 5th week in a row.
“GMA” has decreased its Total Viewer year-ago-week gap with the NBC program in 38 of 43 weeks of the season to date. In addition, “GMA” cut its total viewer gap season to date by double-digits (-30%), posting its smallest Total Viewer gap with the NBC program in 4 years – since the 2006-07 season.
For the 4th week running, “GMA” topped CBS’ “Early Show” by triple-digits in Total Viewers (+114% - 4.595 million vs. 2.145 million) and Adults 25-54 (+109% - 1.739 million vs. 831,000). “GMA” turned in its largest Total Viewer lead (2.450 million) over the CBS program in 7 weeks – since w/o 5/23/11.
