During the week of July 25, 2011, ABC’s Jimmy Kimmel Live saw double-digit percent gains over the year-ago week in both Total Viewers (+15%) and Adults 18-49 (+14%), posting the largest yearly gain in viewers of any late-night talk show. In addition, JKL stood as the only late-night broadcast talk show to grow over the same week last year in young adults, as NBC’s Tonight Show with Jay Leno (-15%), Late Night with Jimmy Fallon (-7%) and Last Call with Carson Daly (-9%) and CBS’ Late Show with David Letterman (-11%) and Late Late Show with Ferguson (-2%) were all down from their year-ago week performances.

Additionally, ABC’s JKL posted its 2nd week of consecutive gains in both Total Viewers and Adults 18-49 to hit its best performance in 3 weeks.

  • ABC’s JKL beat CBS’ The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson by 7% in Total Viewers and by 5% in Adults 18-49, leading the CBS late-night program in 3 of 5 nights of the week (Monday, Thursday and Friday) on both Nielsen measures. In fact, an encore telecast of JKL on Friday defeated an original telecast of Ferguson by 18% in viewers and by 17% in Adults 18-49.

  • ABC’s JKL topped TBS’ Conan by 8% in Adults 18-49.

  • Excluding the NBA Finals-led broadcasts in June, JKL’s Thursday telecast (7/28/11), featuring guests Harrison Ford and Lady Gaga, attracted the ABC late-night program’s largest Adult 18-49 audience on any night in 2 months – since 5/24/11. In fact, Thursday’s telecast marked the program’s best summertime number in young adults in nearly 1 year – since 8/10/10. In addition, Thursday was the most-watched original telecast of the season in Teens 12-17.

During the recently completed 2011 July Sweep, ABC’s Jimmy Kimmel Live beat CBS’ The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson by 4% in Total Viewers, marking its 3rd win in the last 4 Sweep periods. In addition, ABC’s JKL topped TBS’ Conan by 8% in Adults 18-49, posting its 2nd consecutive victory over the TBS late-night program.
