The New York Times reports that Fox is set to announce a 13 part update to Carl Sagan’s iconic Cosmos. Neil deGrasse Tyson will host the update and Family Guy creator Seth MacFarlane will be one of the producers. Sagan’s widow Ann Druyan, who worked on the original, will be part of the creative team as well. Two nebulae and a cup? Billions and billions of fart jokes? How can it be so!?

MacFarlane is a big fan of the original (as am I) and according to the New York Times he laments that society as a whole has lost its fascination with science.

“We’re obsessed with angels and vampires and whatnot,” Mr. MacFarlane, told the New York Times in an interview, “when there are many more exciting and very real and much more spectacular things to be excited about, that are right in our own planetary backyard.”

Cue the Vangelis.
