NAACP CONGRATULATES REVEREND AL SHARPTON ON HOSTING NEW MSNBC SHOW

(Baltimore, MD) – The NAACP congratulates Reverend Al Sharpton on his new role as host of the nightly MSNBC show, “PoliticsNation”. The longtime civil rights leader and minister will host the show weeknights at 6 p.m. EST. "Congratulations to Reverend Al Sharpton for being named host of PoliticsNation,” stated NAACP President and CEO Benjamin Todd Jealous. “This is a positive step towards addressing the dearth of African American voices in prime time news.”

In June, the NAACP issued a statement critical of the lack of African American journalists in prime time news, both on cable and national network news shows.

“The addition of Al Sharpton to the prime time lineup adds a much needed unique perspective and is an important step towards improving diversity in news programming,” stated Vic Bulluck, Executive Director of the Hollywood Bureau of the NAACP.
