3Q 2011:

 

For 3rd Quarter 2011, ABC News’ “Good Morning America” averaged 4.484 million Total Viewers and a 1.4/11/1.701 million in Adults 25-54 during the, according to Nielsen Media Research“GMA” improved on the year-ago quarter (3Q10) by double-digits in both Total Viewers (+15%) and Adults 25-54 (+10%), growing the most versus the year-ago quarter among the morning news programs. (NBC’s “Today” was up by +5% and by +5%, respectively; CBS’ “Early Show” was up by +1% and was down by -5%, respectively). 

 

Impressively, “GMA” improved on the year-ago week in both Total Viewers and Adults 25-54 in all 12 weeks of the 3rd quarter.  In addition, “GMA” attracted its most-watched 3rd quarter audience in 6 years (since 3Q05).  Further, 3Q11 stood as the 2nd most-watched 3rd quarter in 19 years – since at least 3Q92, pre-dating Nielsen’s electronic database starting on September of 1991.

 

“GMA” decreased its margins with “Today” compared to the previous quarter (2Q11) in both Total Viewers (-16% - 562,000 vs. 702,000) and Adults 25-54 (-15% - 569,000 vs. 672,000).  Cutting its margins with “Today” for the 3rd straight quarter, “GMA” scored its smallest Total Viewer gap in nearly 4 years (since 4Q07) and smallest news demo margin in 2 years (since 3Q09).  

 

“GMA” nearly doubled its performance over CBS’ “Early Show” during 3Q11 in both Total Viewers (+95%) and Adults 25-54 (+92%).  “GMA” delivered its largest 3rd quarter advantages over the CBS program in 6 years in Total Viewers (+2.188 million – since 3Q05) and in 4 years in Adults 25-54 (+816,000 – since 3Q07).

 

2010-11 Season:

“Good Morning America” averaged 4.680 million Total Viewers and a 1.4/11/1.790 million in Adults 25-54 during the 2010-11 television season.  “GMA” improved on the previous season in both Total Viewers (+10%) and Adults 25-54 (+3%), growing the most season-to-season among the network morning newscasts (NBC’s “Today” was up by +2% and by +2%, respectively; CBS’ “Early Show” up by +1% and was flat, respectively).  In fact, “GMA” attracted its largest overall television season audience in 4 years – since the 2006-2007 season.

 

“GMA” grew year-over-year in both Total Viewers and Adults 25-54 in the final 21 weeks of the season.  In fact, the ABC newscast saw its Total Viewer count grow year-to-year in the final 36 weeks of the season and in 49 of 52 weeks overall.  

  

“GMA” narrowed its season-to-season total viewing gap with NBC’s “Today” by double-digits (-31% - 744,000 vs. 1.083 million), scoring its smallest Total Viewer margin with the NBC program in 4 years – since the 2006-07 season.  Further, “GMA” decreased its year-to-year Total Viewer weekly gap with “Today” in the last 14 weeks of the season and in 47 of 52 weeks overall.

 

“GMA” beat CBS’ “Early Show” during the season by 2.080 million Total Viewers (4.680 million vs. 2.600 million) and by 732,000 Adults 25-54 (1.790 million vs. 1.058 million), turning in its largest Total Viewer lead over the CBS program in 4 years – since the 2006-07 season. 

 

Emmy Award-winning “GMA,” featuring the anchor team of Robin Roberts, George Stephanopoulos, Sam Champion, Lara Spencer and Josh Elliott, airs live Mon.-Fri. (7:00-9:00 a.m., ET) on ABC. James Goldston is senior executive producer and Tom Cibrowski is executive producer.
