Compelling Tournament Week Sets Web Traffic Records for

ORLANDO, Fla. (Sept. 29, 2011) – Golf Channel’s 11-plus hours of live coverage of Sunday’s Solheim Cup finale from Ireland earned the network a 35 percent viewership increase over the 2007 matches, the last time the biennial competition was played on European soil. Ratings peaked in the final hour (12:15-1:15 p.m. ET) at 0.7/684,000 opposite NFL pre-game shows and kickoffs on other networks.

Sunday’s singles matches were watched by an average of 318,000 viewers, compared to 235,000 in 2007 when the matches were played in Sweden. The entire telecast’s 0.3 household rating was equal to 2007.

Golf Channel aired an unprecedented total of 31 live hours of The Solheim Cup over three days – with the majority airing during overnight hours due to Ireland’s five hour time difference from the Eastern time zone. Sets Records

During the week, which also was highlighted by the TOUR Championship by Coca-Cola on the PGA TOUR, achieved significant increases in traffic over the same period in 2010, including a 23 percent increase in page views (3,135,442/2,539,035), which peaked at 670,000 on Friday. The site also garnered a 34 percent increase in unique users year over year (242,167/180,527).
