Our Renew / Cancel Index predicts potential renewal or cancellation for scripted broadcast primetime shows by the end of the 2011-12 season in May, 2012. (includes results through October 2, 2011):
|Program||Status||Renew/ Cancel Index|
|The Playboy Club||canceled||0.68|
|Parks & Recreation||0.99|
|Law & Order: SVU||1.06|
|Up All Night||1.29|
|Grimm (F)||not premiered|
|Chuck (F)||final season|
Let me thank NBC’s Bob Greenblatt for keeping Free Agents on the air at least until I could headline a post with it. It’s in as much or more danger of being yanked off the air
first as any other show right now, but last week’s bear & bunny photo was so good I had to go with The Playboy Club headline. Update: And the timing worked out, The Playboy Club is now canceled.
The cancellation bear is certainly more patient than Mr. Greenblatt.
Harry’s Law looks like it’s not going to make it another season either, but it’s certain to remain on the air longer than Free Agents, so it can wait until next week to make the headline.
The Playboy Club has been pulled off the schedule by NBC, to be replaced by Brian Williams’ primetime newsmagazine show. Our readers nailed it. Twice.
Community’s ratings, as usual, would get it cancelled on ABC, CBS or Fox, but it will be within a season of syndication at the end of this year, and I’m sure the economics will be bent enough by Sony to keep in on the air to get enough episodes for syndication, it will fall no lower than “toss up” this season.
Thanks to reader Zach for the bear plate photo!

The Renew/Cancel Index is the ratio of a scripted show’s new episode adults 18-49 ratings relative to the new episode ratings of the other scripted shows on its own network. It’s calculated by dividing a show’s new episode Live+Same Day adults 18-49 average rating by the Live+Same Day new episode average of all the new scripted show episodes on the show’s own network. The network’s average ratings in the calculation are not time weighted (ex. hour long shows are not weighted twice what 30 minute shows are).
(F) -Fridays: Shows airing on Fridays were renewed with significantly lower than average Indexes.
