UNIVERSAL CITY, Calif. – November 10, 2011 – The seven remaining contestants compete in a pentathlon, with eight-time Olympic medalist Apolo Ohno leading them through their final event in a fast-paced episode of NBC’s “The ,” airing Tuesday, November 15 (8-10 p.m. ET).
The competition heats up as host Alison Sweeney tells the final seven players that they will be competing in a pentathlon, and they can only rely on themselves because this week, the game goes to singles. Contestants will earn points in each of the five events, which will test everything from speed to strength to nutrition knowledge. In one event, they’ll even get a chance to rank the others in order of who they think most deserves to be “The” this season. The pentathlon winner gets the coveted prize of immunity, while the loser gets a weigh-in disadvantage.
The players get a very special surprise with the arrival of short track speed skater Apolo Ohno, the most decorated American Winter Olympic athlete of all time. He shares how finding a sport he loved kept him on track, and leads the contestants through their final event – racing one mile -- and motivating them each step of the way.
“The experience on ‘The’ was fantastic,” said Ohno. “It truly is about the contestants and helping them persevere through all obstacles. These people are all inspirations to the millions watching, and I wanted to squeeze every last percent of performance out of them so they could cross the line with zero regrets.” He added, “I love the show and what it stands for. It is exactly what we all need to see – people overcoming fears and obstacles to achieve their dreams.”
Also this week, one trainer reveals very personal details about their difficult childhood to a contestant who is struggling with trust issues. Later, the weigh-in is followed by the most emotional elimination of the season so far.
