ABC Beats a “World Series”-Boosted Fox During November in Total Viewers

And Ranks No. 1 During the Month for the 7th Year in a Row in Women 18-49

 

The Net Claims 3 of the Top 10 TV Shows in November 2011 with Adults 18-49,

Including the No. 1 Scripted Show, the No. 1 Drama and the No. 1 New Drama

 

ABC’s Wednesday Comedy Block is Up by Double-Digit Percentages in the Sweep

 

Posting its Top Numbers in 2 Years, the Net Grows Year to Year in the 10pm Hour

 

 

November 2011 (25 of 28 Nights):

Based on all programming, ABC (9.5 million) will finish the 2011 November Sweep as the 2nd-most-watched network overall, outdrawing a “World Series”- boosted Fox (9.2 million) and an NFL-inflated NBC (7.5 million).  In addition, ABC ranks No. 1 during November for the 7th straight year with Women 18-49 (3.4/9).  Excluding sports to level the playing field, ABC is pacing within 1-tenth of a rating point of tying CBS for No. 1 for the month in Adults 18-49 (2.8/7 vs. 2.9/8) and is the clear leader across all key Women demos.

 

  • Highest-Rated TV Series:  ABC claims 3 of the Top 10 TV series during November 2011 in Adults 18-49, including the No. 1 scripted show (“Modern Family”), the No. 1 drama (“Grey’s Anatomy”) and the No. 1 new drama (“Once Upon A Time”): “Modern Family” – No. 2, “Grey’s Anatomy” – No. 6 and “Once Upon A Time” – No. 9. ABC’s “DWTS” stands as the 2nd-most-watched entertainment show overall for the month and the No. 1 unscripted series.  In addition, ABC has 3 of the Top 4 TV shows for the sweep with Women 18-49, with “Modern Family(No. 1), Grey’s” (No. 2) and “Once Upon A Time(No. 4). 

 

  • Growing Wednesday Night Comedy Block:  For the 2nd straight November, ABC’s Wednesday 8:00-10:00 p.m. comedy block is up by double-digit percentages with Adults 18-49 (+12%).

 

  • ABC Posts Gains Over Last November with Returning and New Series:  A number of ABC’s returning programs posted gains over last November with Adults 18-49: “The Middle” (+7%), “Modern Family” (+17%), “Saturday Night Football” (+47%) and “America’s Funniest Home Videos” (+6%).  The Net’s key new series improved their time slots by wide margins for ABC November to November in the key young adult sales demo: “Last Man Standing” (+37%), “Suburgatory” (+25%), “Revenge” (+75%) and “Once Upon A Time” (+73%).  In addition, ABC sophomore drama “Body Of Proof,” which came in midseason, is improving its hour by 18% over the year-ago drama it replaced (“Detroit 1-8-7”).

 

  • ABC is Up in the 10 O’clock Hour: On Monday-Friday from 10:00-11:00 p.m. as a lead-in to affiliates’ late-local news, ABC is up year to year during the November Sweep in Total Viewers (+6%) and the key Adult 25-54 news demographic (+3%). In fact, ABC is drawing its top November Sweep numbers in the hour in 2 years – since 2009.
