TiVo Gains 117,000 Subscribers
In the quarter ending October 31, 2011, TiVo's total subscribers increased 117,000 to 2.045 million, which is about the subscriber total it had in mid-2004. It was the first time that TiVo subscribers increased on a quarter to quarter basis since early 2007, largely on the strength of non-US subscriber gains from cable and satellite company provided boxes (Virgin Media UK prominent among them)
TiVo's international and it's business licensing its intellectual property (or suing for damages over it) may give it another chance in the marketplace, but TiVo has no business left selling its own DVR hardware in the US and is completely irrelevant in the US DVR sales marketplace. For the most recent quarter, it only sold about 300 of its own TiVo DVRs in the US each day.
