ABC Leads NBC in Late-Night by Double-Digit Margins in Total Viewers
and Adults 18-49, Marking ABC’s 8th Win in 9 Weeks Over NBC

 

ABC’s “Nightline” Ranks No. 1 in Late-Night Among Total Viewers
and Adults 25-54 for the 3rd Week Running

 

ABC’s “Jimmy Kimmel Live” Delivers Year-to-Year Growth
in Viewers for the 8th Time in the 9 Weeks of the Season

ABC Late-Night (Monday – Friday)

With its lineup of “Nightline” and “Jimmy Kimmel Live” during the week of November 14, 2011, ABC grew its overall audience in late-night over the same week last year for the 3rd consecutive week. Growing over the year-ago week by 7% in Total Viewers (2.510 million vs. 2.344 million), ABC delivered the largest year-to-year gains of the 3 broadcast networks (CBS was up +6% and NBC was down -5%).

 

  • ABC topped NBC during the week in late-night by 13% in Total Viewers (2.510 million vs. 2.223 million) and by 11% in Adults 18-49 (836,000 vs. 756,000) to lead NBC in 8 of the 9 weeks of the season in Total Viewers.

 

“Nightline” (Monday – Friday)

For the week of November 14, 2011, ABC’s “Nightline” ranked No. 1 in late-night among Total Viewers (3.996 million) and Adults 25-54 (1.555 million) according to Nielsen Media Research.  The ABC late-night program has taken the top spot in Adults 25-54 in all 9 weeks of the season and in 8 of 9 weeks in Total Viewers. 

 

The ABC late-night program improved on the year-earlier week for the 2nd week in a row in Total Viewers (+7% – 3.742 million on w/o 11/15/10).

 

Season to date for the 2nd straight year, “Nightline” ranks No. 1 in late-night among Total Viewers, Adults 25-54 and Adults 18-49, ahead of both NBC’s “The Tonight Show” and CBS’ “The Late Show” (“Letterman” began on CBS in the 1993-94 season).  Season to date, “Nightline” is up by 2% in Total Viewers compared to the same point last year, standing as the only program to grow year to year in Total Viewers versus “The Tonight Show” (-2%) and “The Late Show” (-7%).  

 

“Jimmy Kimmel Live” (Monday – Friday)

During the week of November 14, 2011, ABC’s “Jimmy Kimmel Live” was up over the year-ago week by 8% in Total Viewers (1.953 million vs. 1.809 million), marking the ABC late-night program’s 8th time in 9 weeks this season to grow its overall audience year to year.

 

  • During the week, ABC’s “JKL” stood as the No. 3 late-night talk show in Total Viewers (1.953 million), behind only CBS’ “The Late Show with David Letterman” (3.580 million) and NBC’s “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno” (3.578 million).

 

  • ABC’s “JKL” (M-F 12:00 a.m.) topped NBC’s “Late Night with Jimmy Fallon” (M-F 12:35 a.m.) for the 3rd straight week in Total Viewers (+15% – 1.953 million vs. 1.700 million) and for the 2nd week in a row in Adults 18-49 (+5% – 713,000 vs. 676,000). In fact, “JKL” topped “Fallon” in all 4 of “JKL’s” original telecasts of the week in both viewers and young adults.

 

  • ABC’s “JKL” outdrew CBS’ “The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson” (M-F 12:35 a.m.) by 14% in Total Viewers (1.953 million vs. 1.712 million) to lead the CBS late-night program in all 9 weeks of the season to date. “JKL” drew a larger overall audience than “Ferguson” in each of “JKL’s” 4 original telecasts of the week.

 

  • Season to date (9 weeks), “Jimmy Kimmel Live” is building its overall audience over the comparable weeks last year by 5% in Total Viewers (1.830 million vs. 1.744 million), growing the most year to year of the late-night broadcast talk shows.JKL” is also the only late-night broadcast talk show to grow through the same point last season in Adults 18-49 (715,000 vs. 713,000), as NBC’s “Leno” (-12%), “Fallon” (-7%) and “Last Call with Carson Daly” (-11%) and CBS’ “Letterman” (-4%) and “Ferguson” (-2%) are all down.
