Telemundo’s Tigres vs. Santos Broadcast Averaged More Than 2.3 Million People
“Futbol and Football” Strategy, Featuring Tigres Vs Santos Followed by NY Giants vs. Dallas Cowboys NFL Game Boosted Telemundo’s Dallas Station to # 1 Among All Spanish-language Networks
MIAMI– December 13, 2011 – The live “Futbol Estelar” broadcast of the Mexican Liguilla soccer final match, featuring Tigres Vs. Santos on Sunday, December 11 at 6:55pm ET, averaged 2,304,000 persons 2+, becoming the highest-rated Futbol Liga Mexicana match aired in 2011 by any Spanish-language network including Univision, Telefutura, Azteca America and Galavision, according to Nielsen. With the Tigres vs. Santos final, this year Telemundo delivered the top two Futbol Liga Mexicana matches across all competitive networks, including the Chivas vs. America “Superclásico” game on April 10, which registered 2,159,000 persons 2+ and 1,456,000 adults 18-49. This match was the seventh consecutive Futbol Liga Mexicana final produced by Deportes Telemundo.
The Tigres vs Santos final boosted Telemundo to the #1 Spanish-language broadcast network on Sunday night (7-11pm) among adults 18-49 (1,139,000), men 18-49 (796,000), adults 18-34 (706,000) and men 18-34 (486,000). Futbol Estelar was the #1 Spanish-language program from 7-11pm on Sunday among adults 18-49 (1,531,000), men 18-49 (1,105,000), adults 18-34 (910,000) and men 18-34 (654,000).
The game recorded significant growth for Telemundo, surpassing its own Apertura 2011 playoff average with persons 2+ growing 65% (vs. 1,400,000) and adults 18-49 growing 66% (vs. 924,000).
In Los Angeles and Houston, the final match was the highest rated program on a Spanish-language network for the weekend among adults 18-49. The match boosted Telemundo to # 1 Spanish broadcast station among total viewers 2+ in Los Angeles, Houston, Chicago, Dallas and San Francisco and was # 1 between Spanish-language broadcast stations among households in Los Angeles, Houston, Chicago, Dallas, San Francisco and Las Vegas.
The Mexican Futbol final was followed by the NFL game between the New York Giants and Dallas Cowboys and broadcast in the local markets of New York, Miami, Dallas, Chicago, San Jose, San Francisco, Washington DC, Philadelphia, San Diego and Los Angeles. The programming block branded “Futbol and Football”, boosted the Dallas station to # 1 among all Spanish stations in the adults 18-49 and 18-34 categories. The NFL game delivered a 14% growth among adults 18-49 vs Nov’11 sweep time period in Los Angeles and a 289% growth in Dallas in the same category. Likewise, the NFL match recorded 185% and 410% growth vs. Nov’11 sweep time period among adults 18-34 in Los Angeles and Dallas, respectively.
