Our Renew / Cancel Index predicts potential renewal or cancellation for scripted broadcast primetime shows by the end of the 2011-12 season in May, 2012. (includes results from January 2-15, 2012):
|Program||Status||Renew/ Cancel Index|
|Chuck (F)||final season||0.54|
|Parks & Recreation||1.14|
|Law & Order:||1.20|
|Are You There, Chelsea?||1.37|
After a weak start on a Sunday, ratings fell even further in its Thursday regular time slot premiere. Its 1.0 adults 18-49 marks it as certain to be canceled, even on the train wreck that is NBC primetime.
But because Sony made NBC a super cheap deal for all 22 episodes of the cancellation bear will be waiting., and NBC isn't likely to have good (if any) alternatives for its Thursday time slot, it may stay on the schedule this season for quite some time. What's certain is that by the end of this season it will be canceled and not return to NBC (it's future outside the US isn't something I'm concerned with). No matter how long it takes,
To many critics chagrin, Are You There, Chelsea? ratings began reasonably well (for NBC), and Whitney ratings didn't crash immediately after its time slot move. Who knows what the future may hold, but right now their ratings give them both a positive future.
Not so for Harry's Law, it returned on Wednesday to notch another woeful 1.2 adults 18-49 rating on its way to certain cancellation at the end of this season.

The Renew/Cancel Index is the ratio of a scripted show's new episode adults 18-49 ratings relative to the new episode ratings of the other scripted shows on its own network. It's calculated by dividing a show's new episode Live+Same Day adults 18-49 average rating by the Live+Same Day new episode average of all the new scripted show episodes on the show's own network. The network's average ratings in the calculation are not time weighted (ex. hour long shows are not weighted twice what 30 minute shows are).
(F) -Fridays: Shows airing on Fridays were renewed with significantly lower than average Indexes.
