“ABC World News with Diane Sawyer” Cuts Gaps with NBC by Double Digits
Season-to-Date -- Total Viewer Gap by 16% and Demo Gap by 21%
Season-to-Date, “World News” Closes Demo Gap with NBC to the Smallest Margin in 3 Years
For the week of January 16, 2012, “ABC World News with Diane Sawyer” averaged 8.45 million Total Viewers and a 1.9 rating/6 share/2.26 million among Adults 25-54, according to Nielsen Media Research. Growing for the 2nd straight week in both Total Viewers (+2%) and Adults 25-54 (+4%), “World News” hit a season-high in overall viewers and its 2nd-best in the key adult news demo. In fact, “World News” attracted its most-watched week in nearly 1 year – since w/o 2/28/11. In addition, the ABC evening newscast delivered its most-watched telecasts of the season on Monday (8.78 million – 1/16/12).
“World News” has cut its season-to-date gaps with “NBC Nightly News” by double-digits in both Total Viewers (-16%) and Adults 25-54 (-21%), posting its smallest news demo margin (339,000) with the NBC program in 3 years – since the 2008-09 season.
“ABC World News” outperformed the “CBS Evening News” by 1.06 million Total Viewers.
“ABC World News with Diane Sawyer” airs at 6:30 p.m., (ET) on the ABC Television Network. Michael Corn is the executive producer of the broadcast.
