Season-to-Date, “GMA” Posts Smallest Total Viewer Margin with NBC’s “Today” in 16 Years

 

“GMA” Only Morning Program to Grow in Demo and Total Viewers Season-to-Date

 

 

ABC News’ “Good Morning America” attracted 4.910 Total Viewers and 1.6/11/1.920 million Adults 25-54 for the week of January 16.  Growing its overall audience (+1%) for the 3rd week in a row, “GMA” hit an 8-week high in Total Viewers – best since w/o 11/21/11.

 

For the 17th time in 18 weeks this season, “GMA” narrowed its year-ago margins with “Today” in both Total Viewers (-12% – 599,000 vs. 681,000) and Adults 25-54 (-15% – 561,000 vs. 658,000). In addition, “GMA” decreased its Total Viewer margin with “Today” week to week by –12% (599,000 vs. 677,000).

 

Season to date, “GMA” narrowed its gaps in both Total Viewers (-38%) and Adults 25-54 (-39%) versus its year-ago season gaps.  In fact, “GMA” is posting its smallest Total Viewer margin (564,000) with “Today” in 16 years – since the 1995-96 Season.

 

“GMA” topped “CBS This Morning” by +90% in Total Viewers (4.910 million vs. 2.586 million) and +73% in Adults 25-54 (1.920 million vs. 1.111 million).  “GMA” increased its Total Viewer lead over the premiere week of “CBS This Morning” by+8% (2.324 million vs. 2.146 million).

 

Season to date “GMA” is the only  morning program to grow in Total Viewers (+8%) and Adults 25-54 (+10%) versus its year-ago averages (NBC’s “Today” is flat and down -6%, respectively; CBS’ “Early Show”/”This Morning” is down -10% and -12%, respectively). “GMA” is seeing its largest overall season audience in 4 years, since 2007-08.

 

Note: Due to the Martin Luther King holiday (1/16/12), ABC’s, CBS’ and NBC’s Monday telecasts were coded as specials and are excluded from the weekly average.
