TELEMUNDO DELIVERS BEST JANUARY EVER AMONG TOTAL VIEWERS AND ADULTS 18-49, UP 35 PERCENT YEAR-TO-YEAR
Telemundo is the Fastest Growing Spanish-Language Broadcast Network in Primetime Year-to-Year
Network Dominates The CW for Second Consecutive Month in Monday – Friday Prime in Key Demos
MIAMI – February 1, 2012 – Telemundo delivered the best January results in the history of the network during Monday through Friday prime with 1,521,000 total viewers (persons 2+) and 789,000 adults 18-49, according to Nielsen. Additionally, Telemundo is the fastest growing Spanish-language broadcast network compared to the prior year in Monday through Friday prime in key demos, up +35% among both total viewers (1,521,000 vs. 1,127,000) and adults 18-49 (789,000 vs. 585,000). The ratings growth is fueled by growth in key demos across Telemundo’s original primetime lineup, including the new original telenovela “Relaciones Peligrosas,” which premiered on January 24 at 10pm.
For the second consecutive month, Telemundo delivered more total viewers and adults 18-49 than the CW in Monday through Friday prime from 8-10pm. Telemundo averaged 1,498,000 total viewers and 801,000 adults 18-49, while the CW averaged 1,188,000 total viewers and 619,000 adults 18-49. At 8pm, “Una Maid en Manhattan” outperformed the CW on 19 nights among adults 18-49, or 79% of the time, while “Flor Salvaje” grew for the third straight month and beat the CW in the 9pm hour on 18 nights among adults 18-49 75% of the time.
Telemundo continues to be the primetime destination for movie watchers, as the network aired six of the top 10 movies in primetime on Spanish-language broadcast television among adults 18-49 in the month of January. Additionally, Telemundo had the #1 movie this month in primetime on Spanish-language broadcast television among total viewers (1,436,000) and kids 2-11 (520,000) with “Toy Story” and persons 12-17 with “2 Fast 2 Furious” (129,000).
During weekday early fringe, New York’s WNJU, Miami’s WSCV, and San Francisco’s KSTS ranked #1 across all stations regardless of language in their respective markets among adults 18-49. During weekday prime, New York’s WNJU ranked #1 across Spanish-language stations and Miami’s WSCV ranked #1 across all stations regardless of language among adults 18-49.
In New York, “Lo Mejor de Caso Cerrado” ranked #1 across Spanish-language stations among adults 18-49, while in Miami and San Francisco it ranked #1 across all stations regardless of language among adults 18-49. “Caso Cerrado” ranked #1 across all stations regardless of language among adults 18-49 in New York and Miami and ranked #1 in the demographic across Spanish-language stations in Chicago and San Francisco.
WNJU New York’s “Noticiero 47” at 11pm ranked #1 among adults 18-49 across all Spanish-language stations in the market through January 30. For the 14th consecutive sweep, WSCV Miami’s “Noticiero 51” at 11pm was the #1 late local newscast in the market regardless of language among adults 18-49. WSCV’s “Noticiero 51” at 6pm was the highest rated 6pm Spanish newscast in the market, and from Monday through Sunday 6am-1:30am, WSCV ranked as the #1 Spanish station among adults 18-49.
Telemundo’s WSCV delivered yet another impressive sweep performance in January. In Miami, “Al Rojo Vivo,” “Una Maid en Manhattan,” and “Relaciones Peligrosas” ranked #1 across all stations regardless of language in their respective time periods among adults 18-49. “Pa’lante Con Cristina” ranked #1 across Spanish-language stations among adults 18-49.
Telemundo’s mobile audience also reached a new high and is up +964% year-to-year for video streams and +330% for page views.
The 10pm premiere of “Relaciones Peligrosas” on January 24 averaged 1,284,000 total viewers and 830,000 adults 18-49. The cutting-edge telenovela, starring Mexican novela star Sandra Echeverria, delivered a +7% growth versus season-to-date among adults 18-49 and +34% growth versus the same week last year. The novela's performance grew in the second half-hour by +5% among adults 18-49, with the final minute averaging 890,000 impressions, and reached a cumulative audience of nearly 1.9 million total viewers and 1.2 million adults 18-49.
“Una Maid en Manhattan” averaged 1,662,000 total viewers and 875,000 adults 18-49 in January in the 8pm hour, and “Flor Salvaje” at 9pm grew for the third straight month to post its best delivery to date in January with 1,331,000 total viewers and 736,000 adults 18-49.
At 7pm, “Caso Cerrado Edicion Estelar” delivered the second highest rated monthly performance in the program’s history, since its premiere in September 2010, with 1.6 million total viewers and 748,000 adults 18-49.
Telemundo’s “Fútbol Estelar” featuring Chivas de Guadalajara averaged more total viewers (740,000) and adults 18-49 (486,000) than the Fútbol Liga Mexicana (FLM) primetime performance on any Spanish-language network in January, including Telefutura, Azteca America and Galavision.
“Noticiero Telemundo” increased +15% year-to-year among both total viewers (806,000) and adults 18-49 (351,000), marking the program’s strongest performance since May 2007.
January marked the best performance ever for an episode of “Pa’lante con Cristina,” which averaged 1.4 million total viewers and 740,000 adults 18-49 on January 29.
