Lots of news swirling around today about Oprah's "request" (some might use other terms) via Twitter for Nielsen families to tune into OWN (just as the second highest viewed Grammy Awards in history was on, good luck with that):

Here's Oprah's original tweet, which has subsequently been deleted from her Twitter stream:

“Every 1 who can please turn to OWN especially if u have a Neilsen box,”

That's when problems began for Oprah with Nielsen, since networks that are Nielsen subscribers are prohibited from seeking out or influencing members of the Nielsen panel (i.e. Nielsen families).

After having her hand figuratively slapped by Nielsen, Oprah issued the following apology in a statement to the New York Times:

"I removed the tweet at the request of Nielsen, I intended no harm and apologize for the reference.”

In TV land, there are powers even higher than Oprah...

Crazy whining about the Nielsen ratings tyranny may now commence.
